Inherited from Old Punjabi ਕਢਿ (kaḍhi /⁠kaḍḍhi⁠/), from Lua error in Module:parameters at line 513: Parameter 2 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "inc-pra" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E., from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀓𑀟𑁆𑀠𑀢𑀺 (*kaḍḍhati, to pull, draw). Cognate with Hindustani کاڑْھنا (kāṛhnā) / काढ़ना (kāṛhnā), Sindhi ڪَڍَڻُ / कढणु, Gujarati કાઢવું (kāḍhvũ), Marathi काढणे (kāḍhṇe), Maithili काढ़ब (kāṛhab) / 𑒏𑒰𑒜𑓃𑒥 (kāṛhaba), Nepali काढ्नु (kāḍhnu), Bengali কাড়া (kaṛa), Assamese কঢ়া (korha).
