  • Hyphenation: or‧goj‧lo

Noun

[edit]

orgojlo (accusative singular orgojlon, plural orgojloj, accusative plural orgojlojn)

  1. pride, vainglory
    Synonym: fierego
Orgojlo estas unu el la sep gravaj pekoj.
Pride is one of the seven great sins.

Usage notes

[edit]

Like French orgueil but unlike its cognates in other languages, such as Italian orgoglio, orgojlo carries negative connotations of arrogance and vanity. The synonym fiereco is used for the positive senses.
