[edit]From маро́зіць (marózicʹ, “to freeze, to cool down”) + -іва (-iva), from мароз (maróz), from Old East Slavic морозъ (morozŭ), from Proto-Slavic *morzъ.
Cognate with and possibly influenced by Ukrainian моро́зиво (morózyvo).
