[edit]Etymology
[edit]The spelling might be an unetymological spelling originated from the (inland) Northern region, where the ⟨r⟩-⟨gi⟩ merger took place (coastal dialects of southern Red River delta often still maintain the distinction). Compare Arem parɛh ("rusted, rusty").
Both senses listed below are related. Connection between "rust, rusted" and bodily discharges are amply attested crosslinguistically. Compare Muong Bi kếch (“rusted, rusty”) (cognate of Vietnamese cứt (“shit”)), Burmese သံချေး (samhkye:, “rust”).
