New Delhi | Varun Sharma: Fitness and new year resolutions go hand in hand and we are sure you are super excited to maximize your fitness goals this year.
Thanks to wearable technology now you can monitor your daily routines with a press of a button on your wrist. From running to walking to cycling you name the activity and its results can be captured and are available for you to analyse within a fraction of seconds. Garmin is a very well known name in the wearable technology world. The GPS support on Garmin watches is super accurate and is praised by the fitness enthusiasts. The Forerunner 45 is one of the latest offerings by the brand, it is an upgrade to Forerunner 35 and this new model offers a lot of training features we have seen in the higher price range series of Forerunner. We included FR45 in our daily activity routine and this is what we observed about the watch:
Design & Display:
The first look of the watch is catchy with the black traditional digital dial along with the flexible orange colour rubber wrist band.
If you are an avid Garmin watch user then one thing which you will notice is the small dial look but don't go by the look of it as the watch is available in both 42 mm and 39 mm case. 39 mm case is an ideal size for people with small wrist as it fits well and that's what runners need during their runs.
It features 1.04-inch, 208x208 display. The screen is clear and visibility is good both in sunlight and otherwise. The display is on all the time so you don't have to tap or press a button to see the time. The navigation controls are easy with the regular two buttons on the right side of the dial and three on the left side of the display. The FR45 is lightweight and weighs just 36 gm. Thanks to the watch comfortable band and overall size it can be worn overnight to capture the heart rate and sleep.
The glass top of the watch is chemically strengthened for durability and will stand the occasional hit with other runners watches and gym equipment.
Performance and Features:
GPS accuracy is one of the best features of all the Garmin watches. As it is a runners watch so a lot of focus is on running features but other than that walking, hiking support features are also available in this watch. Different modes are available for these different activities which you can select through the physical buttons available on the dial.
FR45 can store up to 200 hours of training data by connecting through the Garmin Connect app. VO2 max, sleep tracking, body level monitoring are among the other few other features available. If building fitness through running is on your mind then VO2 max progress can be recorded in the Forerunner 45. If you like to see your text, calls notification on your smartwatch screen then you would like it as connected features include smart notification and you can also control music playing on your phone. Safety features include incident detection and assistance along with real-time location alert to the emergency contacts. I just loved the battery support which this watch offers, up to seven days in the smartwatch mode and over 13 hours in the GPS mode which means this watch won't fail you during the long runs and while you are travelling.
Verdict:
Garmin Forerunner is a nice, impressive and affordable running watch available in the market. Functionality is simple, Battery back up is super and boosts all the features you look for in a smartphone watch. Limited colour display and the touch screen is something which you might miss in this watch but overall its a great watch if you are hardcore fitness enthusiasts.
