Topic: The music behind the movies

LEARNING ACTIVITY
1 After Reading the text make the traduction in your notebook
independiente.
Original.

EVALUATION
1. Read and answer the following questions according to what you have read.

a. What is the difference between a score and a soundtrack?

In general, when someone refers to a “film score” they almost always mean the actual
music composed for the film by a composer. However, when referring to a
“soundtrack” they could mean the score and/or the songs from a film. For most of the
general population, it's the songs that stand out to them.

b. Who are the professionals involved in writing and executing a musical score?

"My Heart Will Go On", written by James Horner and sung by Canadian singer Celine Dion. It
was used in the movie Titanic.

c. Describe the process of putting a score with a movie.

Spotting: The composer agrees with the director or producer of the film on the type of
music that is required for the film in terms of style and tone. The director and
composer observe the film and take note of the scenes that require music and precise
notes of the times during each scene.
Synchronization: Dramatic events that happen on screen must be synchronized with
musical events on the score. There are several methods to sync music to picture, these
UNIDAD EDUCATICA COMUNITARIA INTERCULTURAL BILINGÜE
¨DR: MANUEL NAULA SAGÑAY¨

include the use of sequencing software to calculate the times, the use of mathematical
formulas and free time with reference times.
Composition: The composer works on the composition of the music. One method may
be to write notes by hand on a staff, but today most composers write on computers
using sophisticated music composition software.
Orchestration: Once the music has been written, it must be orchestrated so that the
musicians can play it, therefore, the orchestrator takes the music written by the
composer, a score is created and the specific parts of each instrument.
Recording: The orchestra performs the music in front of a large screen representing
the film, usually wearing headphones that help synchronize the music with the film.
2. Write a short paragraph about a musical score that you particularly like
I share one of my favorite violin concertos
a. Why do you like it?

I like it because it is happy at all times there are points where you are simply amazed by the
speed

b. What kind of music is it?

it's classic

c. Are there lyrics to the songs?

it is not a sung song

d. How would movies be if they didn’t include any music.

A bit boring, we would not know how to determine when there is suspense, or fear,
the music in the film gives a meaning to the scenes.

persona extremadamente sensible, probablemente debería evitar tomar
