Gilmore Girls revival: 'Never say never' to even more episodes

Now that we know the Four Final Words don’t exactly give closure, what does that mean for the future of Gilmore Girls? As Lauren Graham told us, “To read the final episode, it’s not totally final.” So once we’ve binged the four Gilmore Girls movies coming to Netflix later this year, do we need to start mourning or counting down days until we have Lorelai and Rory back in our lives?

“We just never say never,” says Daniel Palladino, who is co-writing and co-directing the four Gilmore Girls movies alongside his wife, Gilmore creator Amy Sherman-Palladino.

“The cast is not killed in a terrible explosion at the end. Spoiler alert! It’s sort of a wacky world out there. It’s more difficult logistically than it would be for Amy and I to come up with stories.” Is that a yes? “We don’t know if this is the ending because we never thought Gilmore Girls would come back in any form. But it’s a new world out there and there are new ways to experience things. Who knows? It might be a radio broadcast next. Just us, a couple of mikes, a Foley artist.”

As for the cast, they’re still shooting these four movies until mid-May, so no one is quite ready to sign on. “I can’t even imagine,” says Alexis Bledel (Rory). “For there to be more, again, I’m like, ‘What would the story be?’ Amy would have to tell me and then I would have to think about it. How many actors play the same character for so long?”

Kelly Bishop, who plays matriarch Emily Gilmore, is taking a wait-and-see approach. “With so many sequels, things do change and actors don’t want to do it, but here you’ve got pretty much everybody and we’re happy to be together and we really like each other. Let’s just see what happens. I’m a day-to-day kind of person. I just hope everybody likes this one.”
