Hi thanks so much for your compliment- but WOW thatās a long question, but Iāll try to answer it anyway- š
Truth be told I havenāt put that much thought into the single characters- because thatās not really what Iām most interested in. But I have some specific concepts in mind that Iād like to see partially addressed by a next avatar series-/ how I would do it with my 5 braincells.
1. Itās not the avatar after Korra, but the one another generation down (Water-> Earth -> FIRE)
I want to see a world that NEVER found the next avatar and let the next one after figure out what happened to the one b4 them- or even a couple of fake avatars be declared by diffrent nations, since as unbiased as the avatar may be being the nation with the avatar has some advantages especially in a time of political peace trying to enforce soft power onto other nations.
(Similar to what the Chinese government is trying to do- capturing the penchen lama, so they can declare their own Dalai Lama once Tenzin Gyatso dies :( )
2. The mystery of whether the main character is actually the avatar (did the Earth Avatar actually die already or are they just another fake)
Ideally this would mean that 1- this wouldnāt take place too long after korraās death (like 30-40 years) and 2- the mc canāt bend any element yet (or just 1 element but thatās somehow more boring to me)
They could be running away from the people claiming theyāre the avatar, trying to find the real one- traveling the world is an important part of avatar and that would be the perfect reason.
3. Growing independence movements.
I really want to see diffrent cultures within the earth kingdom and fire nation strive for independence now that they donāt need the protection of a bigger state anymore and nobody (idealy) wants to look like the big, bad oppressor.
Similar to what happened in europe post ww2
4. The current avatars main mission always seems to be fixing something the previous avatar failed at-
Like how Kuruk fixed Yangchens mistake with neglecting the spirit world,
Kyoshi uuuh not sure- did she fail at anything?
Aang ended the war that Roku failed to prevent,
Korra brought back the air nation after Aang couldnāt
And Korra ofc lost the connection with all past their lives.
I actually donāt want them to change that- stick with it.
But I want the mc to go on a journey to discover his predecessor in the first season (build the problem for the final season //point 5) and then a treasure hunt of sorts to discover all avatars that were āforgottenā- avatars from cultures like the ones from point 3- tying these points together and discovering the avatars and (more importantly) their peoples identity and how to move forward.
Let them write it all down too, so they wonāt be forgotten again.
5. Every avatar story needs a main antagonist, so thatās where I put something completely wild but stick with me-
The Earth avatar that was never found was born into an underground kingdom that was founded long ago by powerful earth benders(/or spirits idk make it a legend) that in an effort to shield their people from the dangers of the surface submerged their city, isolating it from the rest of the world for hundreds or thousands of years. Over time they created an elaborate tunnel system- building more and more cities and creating an empire.
The new avatar would realize who they are at some point and seek to understand this world they supposedly were meant to protect. The avatar would then attempt to befriend the next in line to the throne in order to attempt to convince them to let their empire rejoin the surface world. A suggestion that would eventually end up getting them killed by their friend (you could insert a tragic lesbian couple here ā¤)
So the new mc finds out eventually what happened but not who killed them- keep that part hidden for the final show down.
6. Spirit gaang member
I want them to do something interesting with the joined worlds concept- so give them a spirit that aids in the groups journey- my version is a time based spirit that gave the mc a old fashioned clock thatāll help āunlockā the stories of the past avatars. Could also be a mount. Pls donāt let it talk. If they make a comedic relief spirit i might oof myself tho.
Also also. Kill them.
7. So thatās about it ofc, my only other request is pls bring back proper character development for the side characters. Like mentally bolin and mako stayed the same throughout korraā¦
??? Idk storytelling really isnāt my strong suit
(Not question related)
FOR FULL DISCLOSURE! I didnāt completely draw all of the backgrounds for this ask- for a lot of them I used Photos to bring across what I mean better.
(And also this is an answer for a Tumblr question and I already spent way too much time on this Iām sorry djbdkdbdzk)
All of the imagesĀ I used can be found HERE- other apps I used were Prequel, CSP, Paint Tool SAI and Photoscape.
Trees wilted and threw their leaves to the ground, bloodied and infected with vermilion. The air grew crisp, the cloying scent of decay and musk belonging to late autumn.”
Can we talk about how my absolute favorite description of autumn comes from a Merlin/Harry Potter crossover? It’s the total opposite of pumpkin pie comfort and I love RiddellLee so much for it
In honor of Fanfiction Appreciation Day, I’m going to share my favorite favorites from AO3. We’ll get through as many fandoms as I have energy for. I did this a while ago, but I can’t find the dang thing again, so here goes.
Pokemon AU that I LOVE. Set after the events equivalent to the end of the series. Sokka is trying to beat all the gyms, and his last one is the fire gym in Vulca. If only he can find the gym leader, dang it. Very cute AU.
Parental soulmark AU. A minor biography of Li Huong and to a lesser extent his wife, who really do want children. Many of the children in the 41st legion have green parental soulmarks. VERY cute. Podfic available.
In order to punish Ozai, Fire Lord Azulon gives Zuko to Iroh as a son. Certain things come out about how Zuko was treated when he was Ozai’s son. Azulon is a ruthless man when he feels he needs to be.
Zuko is washed overboard in a storm and pulled out of the sea by Chief Hakoda. The Chief tries to use Zuko as leverage against his father. But the responses he gets back start to worry him. In the meantime, his crew is starting to be less afraid of the young firebender in their midst. Even if he does have a temper.
Zuko is the Firelord. His generals don’t like him, his ministers don’t respect him. He’s technically underage, but he was underage for his first Agni Kai too. Very angsty.
The Fire Nation VALUES their children. They educate them, they protect them, they don’t send them to war unless they are adults. Firelord Ozai burns his son’s face off. There are repercussions. Nothing overt. Not at first.
Soulmark AU that sets the bar for all others. Zuko had soulmarks, but his grandfather burned them off when he was a child. Team Avatar has something to say about that.
AU. Zuko and Toph meet on their wedding day. Neither is happy with the situation, but they talk and figure out they at least got an ally out of the situation. Together, they might have a chance to break out of the constraints that bind them.
Epic AU. Utterly massive. SO much worldbuilding, and the author clearly knows a LOT about war and geography and history that they worked into the fic. One of my favorites. The FFN version has all the notes. The link is to the AO3 version.
A crossover with SG-1. Not that you need to know anything about SG-1, because I sure don’t. Set after the end of the ATLA series when Zuko is Firelord. Includes Zuko and Toph being awesome, some philosophy, and a lot of interesting worldbuilding to add to the complexity. Very good.
Zuko is hungry. He’s been on the run for months. So he sneaks into Pouhai Stronghold for some food, like you do. He is then adopted by a troop of silent ninja-archers. Includes lots of bad jokes, found family, and sign language.
June and Nyla the shirshu adopt Zuko. Zuko knows the tax code and how to get June out of paying. Zuko is heavily scarred and clearly hiding from the Fire Nation army. June comes to all the wrong conclusions. VERY CUTE.
What’s this??? A crossover between Danny Phantom and Miraculous Ladybug!?!?!? Yes!!! (I have no clue how many people in the ml fandom have watched DP, but I’m going to try to describe it as best as possible without retelling DP’s plot)
So, during Ultimate Enemy, Clockwork doesn’t mess with the timeline and save Danny’s family, so not only does Danny have to live with the idea that one day he might become evil, but he’s also an orphan now. He’s 14, Marinette’s 11.
To avoid living with his nemesis, Vlad Masters, and risk becoming Evil Danny, he runs away. Specifically to Paris, because he doesn’t think Vlad would look for him overseas and because he took french in high school.
Note: Danny is not good at French.
He ends up living on the streets for a few months, using his powers to steal food from dumpsters and sleep in inaccessible places. It works pretty well until he runs into Tom Dupain during one of his raids on the
Tom & Sabine Boulangerie Patisserie’s dumpster.
Tom has Big Dad Energy and takes the extremely skinny teenager who barely speaks French inside and he and Sabine feed him. They manage to understand that Danny is an orphan runaway and that he’s really afraid of his uncle.
Danny’s smart enough to use a fake name in this au, so he says his name is Samson Foley, Sammy for short.
Because of this, when Tom and Sabine try to search for him, it doesn’t pop up, making them think that his uncle doesn’t care about him and that he’s right to runaway.
The language barrier makes them think a lot of things, like “Sammy’s” parents have been dead for a long time and he’s been living with his uncle since.
Even though “Sammy” doesn’t have papers, they can’t register him as family or send him to school, so Tom and Sabine say that he’s Tom’s distant cousin, Dan “Danny” Manson, who got kicked out, so he’s paying for a room in their house by working in the bakery (they’ve been needing extra hands anyway). He ends up doing school work online and learning to bake with Tom in back.
Marinette wakes up the next day to discover she has an entire brother now and she’s thrilled. He’s kind of awkward around her for the first few weeks, but with his French improving daily and Mari being endearing, he resolves to become the best big brother ever.
Tom and Sabine didn’t intend to start seeing Danny as a son, but he’s so good with Mari and so endearing that they can’t help it. And he sees them as parents too. They around the first year he lived with them, they asked if he would like to call them Maman and Pere and he breaks down crying.
Danny gets therapy for his grief and guilt. He almost doesn’t want to go because it reminds him too much of Jazz, but Mari convinces him after finding him crying in the bathroom.
Also, Danny is trans in this au. Taking T plus all the lifting in the bakery has left Danny ripped.
Danny’s 17 when Stoneheart attacks and almost considers fighting him–those superhero instincts die hard–until Ladybug and Chat Noir appear. He’s relieved since if Phantom suddenly appears in Paris, Vlad and the Guys in White would know where to find him.
Over the next month, he thinks its weird that Marinette’s started eating more and gaining muscle, but chalks it up to puberty. He’s more concerned about why her class has the biggest akuma population. He resolves to teach Mari marital arts to protect herself.
He doesn’t meet Ladybug herself until Animan and, as a former superhero who was really bad at keeping his identity, he became really suspicious of the fact that Ladybug knew who he was without them meeting. However, he doesn’t know for sure until he sees her transform in front of him during the events of Befana.
He ducks out of sight before she sees him, thinking “Jesus, this is how Jazz must have felt.”
Like Jazz, he resolves himself to waiting for her to tell him herself and helping as indirectly as possible. Mainly, by working to find Hawkmoth.
Imagine Danny Fenton working as a security gaurd at Arkum Asylum. Like, he jokes around with the inmates, makes horrible puns, try to get his stick in the mud coworkers to crack a smile. Nobody would take this bean pole seriously. Not noticing the lean muscle underneath his skin, or the way he surveys every room he enters in an instance. He’s become a favorite with several inmates like Harley and the Riddler; not afraid to make witty comebacks and banter. There is just one thing though. He tells them one day if they ever try to escape they best do it when he’s off the clock because they won’t otherwise. Don’t mistake this for a challenge, its a warning, he informs them. And the most mysterious thing about this new gaurd is that there has yet to be a successful prison break when he’s on duity. This kind of record in Arkum is unheard of. Who knows what kind of attention that might cause. Mabye even the curiosity of a certain local Vigilante.
If I were a villain trying to break out of Arkum and ran into Danny-freaky-ass- slendrman-looking-Fenton standing at the end of an unlit hall lookin’ into my soul with his dead fish eyes I’d turn right the fuck around.
Some punks with more guts than brains tried to charge him and Guard Fenton just stared them down until the inmates lost their nerve and wouldn’t get any closer than ten feet from Fenton. The lights flicker. He doesn’t move, doesn’t blink. The man might not even breathe. The feeling is similar to walking through the forest and stumbling across a bear standing in your path. Something that seems so friendly from a distance but you dare not cross in close quarters. Something that makes your heart fall out through the seat of your pants.
Hardened crooks who would willingly risk being tracked down by The Bat if they escaped won’t gamble their chances with Fenton. The guy simply has bad vibes, “horror movie vibes” as Harley so eloquently puts it. For everyone who has the good sense to stay put during Danny’s shift they get a bright, friendly smile and a congratulatory “Good choice” during his rounds later. Two words that feel suspiciously like dodging a bullet.
Fun Bonus Ideas:
Inmates place bets as to what kind of messed up stuff Fenton gets up to in has spare time to have such sketchy vibes. The most popular vote is serial killer. Another fan favourite guess is underground fighter, the Deathmatch variety.
At some point during his high school career Danny got tired of running off to transform into Phantom to fight ghosts and started throwing hands as Fenton. From an outside perspective this looks like Amity Park is full of metas and Danny Fenton has a history of getting into fights with them.
People who’ve been in Arkham for more than a month maintain an active betting pool regarding newer inmate activity vs That One Prison Guard
Newer inmates are like ???? Why the fuck do you let this guy push you around??? He’s a child like half your size???
Danny, directly behind them- breathing cool vapor down their necks with his spooky fukcn eyes:
