In the SBS of One Piece’s Volume 98, the Mangaka talked about what Devil Fruit powers match the Straw Hats, including Nami, Zoro, Sanji, and many other members, if they even gained one in the series.
The SBS part in One Piece is a section between volumes where Eiichiro Oda replies to many fan queries. Many of his answers are primarily tongue-in-cheek or silly. He often writes about amazing facts regarding One Piece’s world and characters. As Oda answered the hypothetical question of what Devil Fruit powers would the Straw Hats gain, it certainly is quite fascinating.
What devil fruit will be ideal for Zoro from One Piece?
Eiichiro Oda answered a lot of fan questions in the 98th volume of One Piece. Some were regarding what Devil Fruit powers would suit Nami, Zoro, Sanji, Usopp, and Franky best. Oda said Nami’s Fruit will be the Rumble Rumble Fruit, which allows the user to wield the power of lightning. Her power goes well with her weapon, Clima-tact, which can spray controlled bursts of lightning in a fight. However, according to Oda, Zoro’s Devil Fruit doesn’t directly connect with his powers. He would acquire the abilities of Kaido’s powerful Mythical Zoan Fish Fish Fruit, which allows its user to turn into a dragon.
Why did Zoro get the Mythical Zoan Fish Fish Fruit in One Piece?
Zoro’s fruit was way different than what a lot of fans were expecting, as it didn’t match him when it comes to his innate power levels. The reason behind this is relatively simple. Zoro is already an excellent fighter, so he doesn’t require a Devil Fruit. Oda even specifies that the Devil Fruit will be for his sword rather than Zoro himself since the idea of his weapon turning into a dragon is cool.
One of the significant reasons why Oda didn’t give a Devil Fruit to Straw Hats’ last member, Jinbe. Although the audiences believe that if he were given the power of Swim Swim Fruit, then he would’ve been a broken character.
However, so far into the story, it is rather far-fetched that any Straw Hat will acquire a new Devil Fruit ability. The Mangaka prefers to write a character’s powers along with their personal growth or backstories. Suddenly, getting a Devil Fruit will be an unfair and unearned power for many characters at this point. Straw Hats members are already quite strong compared to how they were at the start of the series.
