Luis Suarez Bid Farewell to Barcelona after 6 Years

Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have come to an agreement over the much-awaited transfer of Luis Suarez. Atleti have acquired him for just €6 million who finally departs the Camp Nou after 6 years. He will now play for Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.

Suarez emerged on the scene as a superstar in 2013 in Liverpool. He was the PFA Player of the year and got them so close to their beloved Premier League trophy. However, Brendan Rodgers could only finish second and then see his striker leave for Spain.

He went on to score 198 goals in 283 games and even went on to win the Golden Shoe as Europe’s top scorer after scoring 59 total goals in 2015-16. He won 4 La Liga titles and his famous partnership with Messi and Neymar saw them win the treble in 2015. He is the club’s 3rd third-highest all-time goalscorer.

Having scored 21 goals in 36 games last season and being injured for most of the season, saw him being left out of the squad this season. New manager Ronald Koeman told Suarez he was out of his plans for this season. Barcelona confirmed the news on their Instagram profile, while also making a tribute to the player.

Suarez is now moving to Atletico Madrid after a move to Juventus fell through. It will be exciting to see him link up with Simeone and Costa. They face Granada and then Huesca on Wednesday.
