The 1st original pool, called the "Manchester Hole, " is one of the most well-liked spots for steelhead fishing. This pool is just south of the Manchester/Dutch Road bridge, just upstream from the access area and project waters. In the summer of 1998 the landowner 1st posted the east side of the hole, and fishing from or walking on the east bank is banned. Fairview Township also has posted no parking signs all along both Manchester and Dutch roads, preventing parking on the street anywhere north of path 5. The steelhead in the creeks are a strain resulting from the steelhead of the Pacific Northwest. These fish are lake run rainbow trout. They’re a species of rainbow trout which lives in Lake Erie throughout the summer, and in the creeks throughout the winter. Steelhead in the creeks usually run from 3 to 8 pounds. Fingerlings, which are about one year old and roughly six inches inches in length are stocked in the creeks in the late winter and spring for imprinting. Elk Creek is a medium sized shale bottom stream running into Lake Erie. Our main draw is the steelhead run, which usually starts in October, and can go into May on some years.
