I'm in the middle of a head gasket job, and want to re-wrap parts of the wiring harness, including by the EGR pipe.
What is the OEM wrap part number or what recommendations are there for competent wrap tape?
:meh:

I thought I saved a thread that had the OEM wrap referenced or the manufacturer that made the wrap or something like that. I just looked through all the titles of my "watched" threads and can't find it so maybe I am making things up and going senile. Seems like a lot of people are using some sort of gold colored insulated tape wrap designed for this sort of thing but don't know the name of it. Hopefully someone will chime in who has experience that can recommend a good product or perhaps knows the OEM product source.

P.S. Good to see you back on mud. Your thread on the EGR was what helped me get my PO401 fixed about 10 years ago. Thanks.

I just recently wrapped my rubber A/C line, that goes along my turbo down pipe & exhaust manifolds with this stuff.

Claims 2000*, I doubled it up because I had extra.

82997-12010 tape, wire harness.
As Cahill mentioned, I remember a thread discussing harness tape but can’t locate.
I ended up with the 5 roll pack of Tesa tape purchased on Amazon ( due to info in that thread on harness tape?).

Can't tell you how glad I am that it was helpful!

The key thing beyond a heat resistant covering is physically separating the harness from the EGR pipe and securing it in place. The harness comes with a built in plastic clip for this purpose but after time it can fail and that's when the harness lays against the EGR pipe.

A sturdy zip tie has worked well for me to hold back my wrapped harness for 10+ years now.

Is a loose wrap around the ERG pipe a good or bad idea? I have some leftover material perhaps 4-5" wide with velcro in mind.

I re-wrapped the main engine harness (US spec FZJ80) with heat/abrasion resistant TESA tape (51036) followed by a split sleeve of aluminized fiberglass similar to above (I had a section of the Fire Sleeve but ended up using that for something else). I also slid a section of the DEI split heat sleeve over and down the EGR pipe starting from the EGR valve connection all the way down to where the EGR pipe bolts to the head. No issues.

Another source for Firesleeve:
