EN tweet. Not sure if it still shows for people who don't login to twitter with the recent changes tho.
They really want to hide his identity but everyone would have an idea of who he is at this point even without seeing leaks.
His looks too feminine. Pity since his regular form strike a good balance
It's the long hair + the shoulderless sleeves fetish that the MHY artist usually reserves for their waifus + boob window.
Personally, I like him, he strikes a good balance of androgyny that most anime charas never do. Gotta check the leaks to see how far apart his banner and Blade's are going to be and plan accordingly.
They're actually aiming towards the handsome royal type of male chars in Chinese wuxia and xianxia stories that lean more towards a more refined fighting style (as oppose to the kind of chars like Jing Yuan who is also a popular trope). It is quite interesting that all High Cloud Five members have designs fitting the most popular ancient Chinese type of chars depict in their fiction. Blade is the pure brute type, Jing Yuan is the leader/mentor type, Daniel is the secretly OP elder mystical type (perfect for that char description), and Jingliu is straight up a martial artist reaching the realm of Xian. The last one we knew her name (and design, given leaks) but it seems she's already dead so no playable.
His banner is right after Fu Xuan in 1.3 if nothing changes, and it would also make sense that way due to it being fit the time frame of Mid Autumn Moon festival. You should have enough for him if you don't roll anything on the weapon banner or waste too many pulls on trying to get Luka on Kafka's banner, and if you use your extra pulls from trading in the shop you can even afford to lose 50-50.Personally, I like him, he strikes a good balance of androgyny that most anime charas never do. Gotta check the leaks to see how far apart his banner and Blade's are going to be and plan accordingly.
I like Wuxia and Xianxia since I grew up reading them, but MHY's design makes me feel very uncomfortable. It's just too feminine and too tiled to the yin style of handsome instead of the yang style. Dan Heng's original form has a perfect proportion and so is Jing Yuan, but new Dan is just queer in my opinion. Makes me wonder if I'm too old for modern designs
I get what you're saying actually. I think it's the contrast of his personality and his fighting style with the design, especially due to the detachable sleeves. Normally a character with his type of design have long and bigger robes with long sleeves (think Taigong design in FGO, or the 公子 type who wields a fan and talks like a loyalty, someone like prince Duan Yu in Tianlongbabu), but because the sleeves are detachable (like Lobo said) that it ends up leaning more towards something a xiannu would wear instead. MHY usually nail it better with the female wuxia/xianxia designs (like Fu Hua and Li Sushang) but for males by far they only did Dan Heng, Blade and Jing Yuan so perhaps they want to try different approach.
I think their designers changed as their new characters, be it GI or Star Rail geared towards a yin style of handsome for males or just go for shotas. I don't really feel comfortable with it since the MCs of Wuxia I read are humble guys like Guo Jing, the macho typle like Xiao Feng, the brooding handsome like Yang Guo or the scholar type like Zhang Wuji. Heck, even Gu Long's MC like Lu Xiaofeng, while a playboy is yang style of handsome.
So MHY's style doesn't really suit me, and killed my desire to roll. Pretty disappointing personally as Luocha is a nice bland of west and east design.
All those chars are my favorites too so I get why you feel weird now. Perhaps this design feels more like its leaning towards Xiao Ao Jiang Hu's two "sus" chars Lin Pingzhi or Dongfang Bubai (not to this one's extent but leaning towards that) kind of feel more than usual.
I think it's more or less the designer's choice tbh, because they let different designers in their teams to do different set of chars, just like FGO. Like the senior designer who designed Arlecchino also designed Clorinde and Eula, and you can see their design logic showing. So whoever designed this Daniel is not necessarily the same one who did Jing Yuan.
Uff, that's good to know, I did notice that ever since launch they have been alternating a female chara banner followed by a male chara: Seele, Jing Yuan, Silver Wolf, Luocha and now Kafka follow by Blade. Glad the pattern continues so I can restock during the female charas banner.

You know what, I can actually see Daniel right at home in a wuxia danmei setting.
Anime adaptations of danmei novels have also been booming the last couple years too ever since the success of Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation/The Untamed.
The thing you need to watch out tho are the 4 stars. MHY has the habit of putting new female 4* chars on 5* male banners and male 4* chars on 5* female banners ever since Genshin and its quite annoying for those who only aim to collect one of the genders. If Yukong wasn't going to be given out for free during the next patch I would've felt so bad about having to skip her.
I am not discriminating male chars (I'm just extremely picky with them cuz the kind of male chars I usually prefer MHY rarely make lol) so if I really like the male char I would be ok risking for the 4 star, but there are very few male chars in MHY games that I am fine with getting (Zhongli and Itto in Genshin, Kevin in HI3 but his playability is axed due to fans backlash, and so far only Jing Yuan in HSR tho I do like Luka concept but I just can't vibe with robot hand). The same goes for husbando collectors having the same risk.
Oh definitely. But then danmei genre isn't what rxrx likes. I also prefer the classic gigachad type of MCs who can be good, bad, or evil so yeah. Good for those who like danmei settings tho.You know what, I can actually see Daniel right at home in a wuxia danmei setting.
That explain's Luka so good to know specially since I started playing Genshin this year too (could never make it run in my pc 'cause it consumes too much GB and lagged but a month or so before HSR launch I got a new phone that can handle both games and others).
Also I'm probably gonna be in the same situation in an event or two when they decide to give a male freebie.
I get what you mean, is the same for me and female characters. If they don't have a good role in the story to make me care I'm usually super uninterested on them (specially if they are ones with super exagerated fanservice outfits). For Genshin I'm aiming to collect the tall male characters because those are the designs that speak to me (save for a few exceptions like Kazuha, Xiao or Cyno most of the short males look too much like children for my tastes). HSR's designs are better in comparison since so far I haven't seen one that I dislike but I do have my faves (MC, Dan, Gepard, Jing Yuan). I'm also with you on Luka's robot arm, but I can ignore it for the rest of his design. I also considered playing HI3 but then I looked for info on its male characters and saw that whole debacle so I decided against it (most likely will look up gameplay videos to check the story in youtube later on). Kevin, Siegfried and Adam looked really cool though.I am not discriminating male chars (I'm just extremely picky with them cuz the kind of male chars I usually prefer MHY rarely make lol) so if I really like the male char I would be ok risking for the 4 star, but there are very few male chars in MHY games that I am fine with getting (Zhongli and Itto in Genshin, Kevin in HI3 but his playability is axed due to fans backlash, and so far only Jing Yuan in HSR tho I do like Luka concept but I just can't vibe with robot hand). Yeah to everyone their own tastes, I also like the classic gigachad from time to time too. I do recommend to people to watch Mo Dao Zu Shi(anime)/The Untamed(live action) though, the story is amazing, and the animation/acting respectively are great. Whoever doesn't watch them "just because is gay" is really missing out on a couple of amazing shows.Oh definitely. But then danmei genre isn't what rxrx likes. Lin Pingzhi, Dong Fang Bu Bai is really hard to do good since reading them and seeing them are two different things. I love how creepy they look and act in old drama adaptions, but newer ones either just turn them female or have female actress portray them. All the while derailing the original mcs.
Danmei and Mo Dao Zu Shi is just not my cup of tea, and GI Star Rails new design is tilting towards this, which is pretty unnerving. Or maybe I'm old and can't get into the new and hyped trends.
But have you seen Sherlock Holmes?
Spoiler:
Shennong also looks quite daddy, I would prefer if Daniel design is more like this one instead.

Honestly the newer adaptations of wuxia stories range from mid to just trash with a bunch of changes compare to the source material. Zhang Jizhong adaptations were the only good modern takes and those are like almost 20 years ago. His recent adaptation of Xia Ke Xing was a big flop tho, it sucks.
Sherlock sure looks good. No comments on Shennong since my text book has him as a bearded middle age doctor dying in the middle of the woods while tasting new herbs, and that stuck in my mind even up till now
Yeah, HI3 has exactly one playable male character (more technically but you don't get to keep any of them), though basically all of the guys that do exist are gigachad material.
You know you've got a good villain/antagonist when you can call him Kevin and still have people quake in their boots when he shows up.
FGO Supports
I can see Shennong design being used for a char related to Yaoshi the Abundance due to his whole medicine and agriculture thing in myth. I hope for a playable Luofu char who is in the opposing side to the Hunt rather than that Yaoshi cult with NPCs lol.
That's what I like about HI takes on their characters. You have the main cast all are strong female chars but they don't come off as the kind of cringe unlikable "strong female chars" Hollywood has, because all of them have huge flaws and struggles to overcome, even fan favorites. Same for male chars who are all complex, and while there are not many of them each of them are written well. You have daddy Siegfried, grandpa Welt (shout out to Welt Joyce too, one of the most gigachad Herrschers), the clown simp Otto, the world's strongest man KEBIN, my bois Kosma and Kalpas.

Stream ended. Finale of the Luofu chapter, more events, QoLs. Huge mommy boss incoming.
Blade's banner is actually decent other than Arlan, and Kafka banner has everything you need for a DoT comp (you need her E2 to make the most out of it tho, otherwise she works like a typical Lightning carry but doesnt build crits).

I still can't get use to how you get to roll characters that are not on MC's side early. At least they have excuses for other games, like FGO where everyone is a copy of a dead person and gets their memory fresh everytime you summon them
