SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTGS) — Savannah’s annual Veterans Day Parade marched through the city Thursday to celebrate our troops and all those who served this country.
Kevin Fallin, a U.S. Navy veteran and Savannah native, said he celebrates veterans and the families who supported them from home.
“Without them, we couldn’t do what we did," said Fallin. His dad was Savannah’s veteran of the year in 1992, and Fallin says his example paved the way for his own path to service. “He was army, I was navy. We just all like being here," he said. Fallin said his kids might be next in line to serve. “We’ve actually talked about it a little bit here and there," said Fallin.
David Phillips, a U.S. Army veteran and Savannah resident said he celebrates the opportunity to serve his country on Veterans Day.
“I was scared when I was there, but I’m so proud that I got to go," said Phillips.

Phillips is not a Georgia native, but Savannah became a home base for him after he was injured overseas.
“I served in Korea in 1969 to 1970, and they sent me home right here to Hunter Army Airfield," Phillips said. "And the spirit here, in this city supporting all of the veterans and the military brought me back here.”
For Phillips, Veterans Day is a reminder of why he served.
“God bless America, and God bless Savannah and everyone here," he said.
