We learned several useful tools this week, including FileZilla, 7-zip, and Notepad++. FileZilla is a file transfer protocol that allows users to fast and reliably transfer files cross platforms. It makes it easy for users to upload and download multiple files from the web hosting server. 7-zip is a file archiver that is used to compress and uncompress files. It can use its own 7z format, which is more efficient than other formats. Notepad++ is a powerful source code editor that supports several languages. I like the features of plugin support, syntax highlighting, and syntax folding, which make it easy to see and edit the codes.
We also learned about how to use the DokuWiki templates to customize the layout of your Wiki pages. The installation is not hard following Dr. Loh’s instruction. There are a lot of temples to choose from, but it is not easy to find one that fits all your preferences. There is always something you want to change in the temples. I find it might be a good idea to learn about template development so that you can modify the design of the existing template to better fit your needs.
