The atmosphere for a Week 14 game between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys was already expected to be electric as both teams are poised to compete for the division title.
But in adding to it, it was announced on Friday that the Giants, who will be at home at MetLife Stadium, will be wearing the color rush jerseys they unveiled last season in their Thursday night game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Giants hope they will have better luck in those jerseys this season after losing their color rush debut, 24-19, during their lone Thursday night game last season.
On the plus side, Big Blue did have success against the Cowboys in last year’s meetings as they swept the season series.
The Giants’ color rush jersey are a retro version of the white jerseys they wore in the 80s and 90s with a new aged spin to them. Typically, the color rush jerseys are worn on Thursday night games, but the Giants’ only Thursday night game will be in Washington against the Redskins on Thanksgiving.
This will be the first time the Giants will be wearing white jerseys at home since their big uniform change in 2000. That was the year the Big Blue changed their helmets to the “NY” letters.
The color rush uniforms don’t just mean the “old school” look jerseys with blue numbers and red outlining, but they also have the old helmets that read “Giants.” The now retro logo helmets were worn prior to the 2000-2001 season.
Prior to 2000, the last time the Giants wore white at home was in 1987.
Any division game is always important, but this game will have big playoff implications for both teams. Hopefully the excitement of the color rush uniforms will help the Giants propel themselves to victory.
