USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Highlighted by 12 matches within the friendly confines of Cadet East Gym, the Air Force volleyball team recently announced its schedule for the upcoming 2023 season. The Falcons, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Keith Barnett, will play a regular-season lineup that features 29 contests, including three tournaments and 18 conference matches.
Air Force, which will host Weber State in an exhibition on Aug. 19, officially opens the season on Aug 25-26, when it hosts Bryant, Rhode Island, and UT Arlington at the Amy Svoboda Memorial Classic. The Falcons will spend the rest of the non-conference season on the road, competing at the Gonzaga Invitational in Washington (Sept. 1-2) and the Santa Clara Mission Classic in California (Sept. 8-9), before traveling to Wisconsin for contests against Milwaukee (Sept. 15) and Marquette (Sept. 16).
The Falcons remain on the road to open Mountain West play, as they travel to Fresno State (Sept. 21) and Nevada (Sept. 23) for the first conference weekend. Air Force, which will host those same teams to close out the home portion of the season on Nov. 9 (Nevada) and Nov. 11 (Fresno State), will continue their home-and-home conference schedule with Boise State (home: Sept. 28, road: Nov. 4), Utah State (home: Sept. 30, road: Nov. 2), San Diego State (road: Oct. 5, home: Oct. 28), UNLV (road: Oct. 7, home: Oct. 26), Colorado State (home: Oct. 12, road: Nov. 18), and Wyoming (home: Oct. 14, road: Nov. 16), while traveling to New Mexico (Oct. 17) and hosting San Jose State (Oct. 21) in their only meetings with those two squads this season.
Air Force is coming off one of its most successful seasons at the Division I level, winning two tournament titles following its best start to a season at the Division I level (6-0). The Falcons, who return all but two players from last year's squad, tied for the second-most wins (15) and matched the most conference victories (seven) in the program's DI history – the latter a tally that has occurred twice during Barnett's first four seasons as head coach.
