I had the melody and some of the lyrics for “I’ll Take The Bullet For You” for ages. I can’t really play any instruments, so I just let the melody marinate in my head, added bits and pieces here and there. Eventually I thought I had enough to start working with, so one November day Ryan and I sat down and Ryan laboriously worked out the notes and chords to the song. He has the patience of a saint, let me tell you. The “something for somebody else” part in the middle was a melody from a completely different song that got thrown into the pot.
I’m very happy with how the song turned out…pretty epic, pretty dramatic. It’s about obsession and its aftermath.
