Blakney Francis was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where she developed an unhealthy obsession with college football but never once had the urge to marry a cousin as the stereotypes of the South might suggest.

I'm not good at writing reviews, but I'm going to try anyways, because I think this book deserves a lot more attention and I don't think the description is very descriptive.

I don't want to take away much of the story, I think part of what makes this book really good is figuring out what is happening, especially at the start. If you can read a Sample of the first few bits, but don't stop reading in the prolouge, I found myself a bit irritated by the narrator in the proloug.

This book felt very realistic to me, though because I have never been in the South I can't really compare them. But I believed the author, that this town and its population could indeed be a real town. The two narrators Sloan and Courtland (they alternate) also were very believable, at times I did not understand Sloan's actions, but it always felt true to the character.

I started this book without any expectations, but I was pleasently surprised by the depth of the characters, how dark this book got and how desperatly I wanted to read through the whole thing. Since it is a bit longer I wasn't able to read it in one setting, but I would've if I had the time.

All in all very engaging book, that I would recommend to anyone that likes to venture into the dark and sometimes bright sides of life.

-> Also I hope someone writes a better review than this, because it does not do the book any justice!

I don't know why this author isn't way more popular. Her writing style is fluid, unique, easy to lose yourself in. I very much enjoyed this book, tough subject that's been done many times before, but seemed very realistic and wonderfully done. While Sloan's character was hard to love, there was also a vulnerability there. I really liked that Courtland was a virgin and not your typical athletic manwhore. FYI, if you need sex scenes, this book is fade-to-black. I thought it was an emotional, intiruguing journey, very well done.

I certainly am a fan of the [only] 2 books Blakney Francis has written, and I hope she continues her author endeavors.

I need more books from this author, she's amazing! This is the 2nd Blakney Francis book that i've absolutely loved. My only complaint is it ended too soon, I need & want more Courtland Mackenzie.

A flawed girl, meets her grandfather & together along with a small town football team, they will steal your heart...keep the tissue close by:-)

10 or maybe 20 stars? I don't know, but I'm sure it is worth much more than just 5.
It was amazing!

My totally biased opinion is that if you're looking for a mature young adult book with a little grit, some romance, and appreciate a good sultry southern setting then READ THIS BOOK.
