Rule Breaker #3

Rules of Our Own

Rate this book
Somehow, I’ve landed myself a do-over and this time we aren’t screwing it up. This time, I don’t want her all to myself. This time we're going to share.

The second the Boston Bruins star forward steps out of the villa bathroom, looking like a god in nothing but a low slung towel…I should turn around and beg for a different room. When his tall dark and broody teammate walks in offering to share the villa…I should run. And when they offer me one weekend of no strings attached fun…I should absolutely say no. But I’ve never been good at doing what I’m supposed to. Three nights wasn’t enough. Not when I still wake up dreaming about her. About them. Imagine our surprise when our new neighbor ends up being the girl we’ve both been obsessing over. This time, we won’t lose her. This time, things will be different. This time…we’re ready to share. They're mine to own, possess, consume. they just don't know it yet. Rules Of Our Own is an interconnected standalone extra spicy NHL Hockey Romance with a MMF why-choose style HEA. Forced proximity, bi-awakening, where the guys are obsessed with her as they are with each other.

First I need to get this out...

J. Wilder just wrote the hottest MMF scene, I have quite possibly ever read. It had me blushing in the dark when I was all alone. I got flustered and if you know me, I read A LOT of smutt and flustering doesn't happen often. I'm talking Dominant male, Biawakening, teacher moment that honestly had me squeaking. Welcome done Ma'am. WELL DONE.

In University Mia had two best friends, River and Alex. Opposites and completely in balance, she couldn't help but fall in love...with both of them. Not wanting to choose, or come between them Mia cut them off, cut them out and ghosted them to try and heal her broken heart. Until...One weekend in Napa when her friends wedding leads to her sharing a suite with her old best friends and this time? They're not letting her go again.

This was such a good read, River is this strong, supportive, dominating man who is always calm, cool and collected and I absolutely loved how he took the role of caring for the other two. The fact he waited until Alex was ready to be open with himself, did everything at his pace and always reminded both Mia and Alex, he had them was amazing. Mia was this amazing doctor who had left an abusive relationship and was trying to find her feet, she had to give up a little control and trust that the boys had her, and they did and she was able to face the challenges in her life without backing down and find herself again. Now Alex, Alex's character development was by far my favorite, and as he worked through his feelings about River and how those feelings played out had me on the edge of my seat. He knew what his body's reaction to it was, but it took him a minute to realize his hearts. The uncertainty him on whether River would love him too, broke my heart and I wanted to hug him.

Over all I absolutely loved this installment in the Rules Series and I'm so ready for who's next. Here's hoping Misty is going to get her NHL god after all.

i would ask the girls in polyam romances with more than one man completely whipped for them to give me some tips, but men in real life are devious so i'm good the way i am (which is with no man at all, in case you were wondering 🤗)

i’m not sure who i killed in a past life to end up here, not in a throuple with two very hot, pro hockey players but it must have been bad!!!

UGH I LOVED THIS. mia, alex, and river were all best friends in college but when alex tried to take things to the next level with mia and subsequently, got punched by river, mia ghosted them and rly said “i will not be yoko ono.” she never thought she’d see them again but her bff had other ideas and put them all in the same suite at her destination wedding… devious, i love it.

this is throuples done right!!! mia was so independent but alex and river were like no, we will do literally anything to take care of you and make your life easier. and while they’re developing a relationship with her, alex and river also went from best friends to more. SO hot, so sweet, just the best!!!

Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Troupes:
- Professional hockey players
- Second chance romance
- Bi-awakening
- Doctor FMC
- No 3rd act breakup

Alex and River have been best friends for years, but when they end up falling for the same girl in college, Mia walks away to prevent damaging their friendship. Years later they get a second chance with a weekend getaway for a friend’s wedding and agree to a weekend only fling where the boys don’t let a moment go to waste with Mia. Long buried emotions resurface and they are determined to not let her walk away a second time.

I was blown away by this book! Some of the absolute best spice and MMF romance I’ve read in a while. I truly wasn’t expecting the spice level and was pleasantly surprised. River’s dominant side had me in puddles! I was hooked from the very beginning and flew through the book. I was sad to see it end because I just wanted more of the three of them! If you’re looking for a spicy romance read featuring an MMF couple, do yourself a favor and read this book.

Honestly . Holy . Fucking.. shit . This book was amazing, I've never read something so great??? The spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ literally. And the love ??? The LOVE you can not only feel it between Alex and Mia and river and Mia, but. Fucking. Alex and river. FUCK. This was so hot and so wholesome?? And it touched me honestly because everyone accepted them . Noone called it weird , it was just normalized and it was just such a well written , beautiful story . Like wow . I'm just wow . I can't . Wow. Best book I've ever read hands down will be reading in the future again. Good night.

DNF at 65%. Hockey romance but no hockey? Had to wait 2/3 of the book to get an mm scene but dude couldn’t deal with a face touch? Too much filler not enough of getting to know the characters. Skimmed a lot of this tbh

if there’s anything worse than someone with a bleeding heart, it’s someone with a bleeding heart and a martyr complex. and herein lies my main issue with our lead character, mia.

mia was aggravatingly stupid to an unreal degree. there’s obviously nothing wrong with being a kind or considerate person, but when your idea of kindness is something that affects your life on a daily basis, maybe you need to rethink some boundaries, bc this girl was for real the doormatiest doormat of all the doormats.

and tho i would never blame her for all of the horrendous ways jason would try and manipulate, control, or abuse her, i 100% can blame her for never ONCE trying to protect herself. from early on, mia would go on and on about how jason’s father was so powerful that nothing would ever come of her reporting him, but how tf do you know that if you don’t ever even try? if she had even just tried to talk to the police or file a report with HR once, even JUST ONCE, maybe i would’ve understood her reticence a little more, but this bitch straight up refused to do a single thing to protect herself!! she didn’t create a paper trail, she didn’t bother to tell a single one of the various people in her support system, and she sure as hell didn’t try to create any boundaries with jason, citing that she “felt guilty” about blocking his number, even after he had been harassing her nonstop for months. girl, are you fucking being for real rn? 💀

aside from mia’s incredible stupidity, i had a lot of other problems with this story. one big one being the fact that this was a book set in a college sports romance series, but it wasn’t set in college. what was the reason? WHAT WAS THE REASON?!?! i won’t even get into how annoyed i was once i realized that we weren’t even going to get any flashbacks from those years, but instead will move on to how long this book was. again, this seemed to be for no apparent reason bc by the halfway point everyone was already in love with everyone, and it was just a case of waiting for alex to catch up to the others and admit his goddamn feelings for river.

in terms of alex and river’s relationship, i’d have to say that particular aspect was probably my favorite part of the entire story. i liked that we got to see the two of them develop their relationship at the same time that they were building something with mia as it was a refreshing perspective that made the story all that much sweeter. all-in-all tho, the fact that this book was much steamier than the previous two did absolutely nothing to benefit the actual storyline or convince me that these three were perfect for each other. i honestly would’ve thought that anyway regardless of all the smut, so it just felt really excessive by the end.

I enjoyed this one way more than book 2. These 3 had a history together, and we finally found out how they broke.

River and Alex are teammates and buddies, and both fell for Mia . Well River got jealous and punched Alex, and Mia didn't wanna ruin a friendship, so she ghosted them both I feel for her since she did like them both and didn't wanna cause problems. Now, this takes place a few years later.

Mia is heading to her besties wedding and is now stuck in sharing a room with River and Alex things changed now that the sexual tension is high between them, and Alex is having more feelings towards River. 🥰🥰🥰
They made a deal one weekend, and that's it. But it doesn't work that way when that weekend is done. Plus, Mia ex is harassing her and makes her lose her job/internship. So they are discovering how to be in a relationship in secret and make sure no one messes with their own.

Plus, Alex learns more about himself, which was amazing ❤️❤️

No ow drama/om drama, no cheating, slight secondary character, drama, sexy times, no virgins

This is definitely one of those books marketed as “interconnected stand-alone that can be read as a stand-alone” only that the author is lying because omg! You see the couples from the first two books here and I was very confused or who is who and who is with who and what is what till the end.. especially seen as this books kicks off from the wedding of one of the characters in the other first books?
Sigh
Read the first two before this that’s for sure.. if I did, maybe I’d have connected with it better + in the author’s defense I’m currently fighting a reading slump.
The spice is phenomenal tho…

“The biggest mistake of my life was letting you walk away. I should’ve fought for you then. Like fuck I’ll make the same mistake now.”

Chapter 50. Full stop. 🥵

Seriously, I loved everything about this book. The second-chance relationship, the friends to lovers, the bi-awakening MM... EVERY. LAST. THING.

There is excellent character and relationship development between the MMCs and FMC. I was rooting for their HEA the whole time. The best part was no third-act breakup due to a miscommunication. While there is pining before the relationships solidify, the book’s overall feel is low anxiety and angst.

I applaud Jessa on her bi-awakening MM moments. The scenes where the two MMCs explored one another were so well done. And this book has some of my favorite MMF scenes ever (one more plug for Ch 50).

Jessa was not kidding about the high smut content. I am damn lucky that both my husband and I are fixed, or there might be an oops baby on the horizon. As it stands, you might want your BOB fully charged or supplied with fresh batteries. This book is fast-burn and VERY spicy.

I highly recommend Rules of Our Own. It is a standalone, but there are character crossovers from the previous two books in the series. You'll have the best reading experience if you have read Rule Number Five and Rules of the Game.

Genre: Hockey Romance
Tropes/Features: Friends to lovers, second chance, forced proximity, one bed, pining, all-in MMCs, hockey playing MMCs, dominant MMC, bi-awakening MM, strong FMC, poly relationship, group scenes, Shibari, dp, dvp, psycho ex drama
Narrator: Multiple 1st Person POV
Relationship Type: MMF, fast burn, spicy!
Book Type/Ending: Standalone with crossovers, HEA

I’ve been waiting for this one! This was definitely my favorite book of the series. I loved the relationship between Mia, River and Alex. The spice in this was perfect. I’ve seen a couple people say this book has was all smut and no plot, I didn’t find that to be true at all. This was a great second chance, hockey romance.

This was a fun quick read, I love Jessa Wilder and her hockey romances, and I think J. Wilder has just written the sexiest MMF scene I have ever read. This book specifically is a throuple which was new territory for me, but she definitely made it worthwhile. It's 80% smut and 20% plot, and I'm not even mad about it. I have to go back to the first one and read the last one, but this series has been so fun to read. River and Alex were such unique duo by themselves and complete polar opposites, River is the dominate and mysterious one but with such a calm presence and then you have Alex who is cocky and draws eyes from everyone and can command a room.

Rules of the Game is my favorite book of the series and I look forward to reading the rest of her books.
