The Crescent Moon Tearoom

Rate this book
A cozy and uplifting debut novel about three clairvoyant sisters who face an unexpected twist of Fate at the bottom of their own delicate porcelain cups.

Ever since the untimely death of their parents, Anne, Beatrix, and Violet Quigley have made a business of threading together the stories that rest in the swirls of ginger, cloves, and cardamom at the bottom of their customers’ cups. Their days at the teashop are filled with talk of butterflies and good fortune intertwined with the sound of cinnamon shortbread being snapped by laced fingers.

That is, until the Council of Witches comes calling with news that the city Diviner has lost her powers, and the sisters suddenly find themselves being pulled in different directions. As Anne’s magic begins to develop beyond that of her sisters’, Beatrix’s writing attracts the attention of a publisher, and Violet is enchanted by the song of the circus—and perhaps a mischievous trapeze artist threatening to sweep her off her feet. It seems a family curse that threatens to separate the sisters is taking effect.

With dwindling time to rewrite their future and help three other witches challenge their own destinies, the Quigleys set out to bargain with Fate. But in focusing so closely on saving each other, will they lose sight of themselves?

A classic, cute, cozy fantasy. It was short and sweet, and it's certain to pull on the heartstrings of anyone who grew up close to their sisters. (And sometimes misses their relationship in childhood as an adult.)

Love the cover as well - thanks to Netgalley, Stacy Sivinski, and Atria Books for this eARC!

The Crescent Moon Tearoom by Stacy Sivinski is an even-paced, cozy fantasy - full of magic and tales of fate. Triplets, Anne, Beatrix, and Violet Quigley fight to untangle the stands of their seemingly cursed fate just to discover that not all is as it seems. The push against, not only each other- but themselves to find a way to fulfill their destinies yet stay together, as sisters.

This tale unravels at a good pace and the sisters are similar yet completely different enough to all be interesting for their own personalities. I love that they all protect each other in their own ways, even at the risk of giving up their own dreams.

Thank you, NetGalley and Atria books for early access to read The Crescent Moon Tearoom in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed it!

The Crescent Moon Tearoom is a perfect cozy fantasy that had my attention from the first page. I loved the atmosphere of the tea shop and the enchanted house that seemed like another main character throughout the book. This book was like three stories that merged into one as we follow the paths of the Quigley triplets. I loved each of their stories as they found their way towards their own paths in life. The ending had me feeling all sorts of emotions and was beautifully done. Overall, I found The Crescent Moon Tearoom to be the perfect magical read and I will be buying the physical copy when it releases to reread for Fall.

The Crescent Moon Tearoom comes out October 1st.

I think there are folks that will be big fans of this but ultimately the writing wasn’t engaging enough for me to be drawn in. By the end of this i was simply skimming to the end out of sheer determination to finish it, but i didn’t feel particularly enamored of the writing or any of the characters. It is however, absolutely itching to be a movie and i could see it excelling in an adaptation for the screen.

Thank you, Simon and Schuster Audio, for my free audiobook for review.

Stacy Sivinski's "The Crescent Moon Tearoom" captivated me from the start with its enchanting premise: three sisters, triplets no less, all blessed with witchcraft. It's a perfect autumnal read that beckons with its stunning cover art.

This magical tale revolves around a trio of sisters running a tea shop and offering tea leaf reading services. Despite being witches, they're still coming into their powers. Sivinski masterfully portrays each sister with distinct personalities and talents, though they mirror each other in appearance. Anne, seemingly tethered to the tea shop, possesses the strongest gift for divination. Beatrix harbors a passion for words and storytelling, while Violet, the most emotional of the three, yearns for adventure yet grapples with her wanderlust. Each sister's journey is endearing, and as a reader, I found myself deeply invested in their struggles—from the looming threat of losing their beloved tea shop to the fear of growing apart.

A particularly engaging element of the book is the trio of challenges presented to the sisters. These tests not only pique the reader's curiosity but also serve as catalysts for the protagonists' growth. As they rise to each occasion, they uncover secrets their mother kept hidden and find the courage to be honest with themselves and each other.

I had the pleasure of experiencing this story through its audiobook version, narrated by Nikki Massoud. Her voice, reminiscent of a siren's call, made it impossible to press pause once I started listening.

At its heart, "The Crescent Moon Tearoom" is a tale of sisterhood, self-discovery, and the realization that pursuing individual paths doesn't necessitate abandoning familial bonds. It's a must-read for fans of "Practical Magic" and anyone who appreciates a well-crafted, magical story about the power of family and personal growth.

All the cozy mystery vibes with that added flair of three witch sisters in old style Chicago!

This is a 3 star read for me but I gave it 4 stars because if this is your genre of book (cozy mystery) you will enjoy this. I personally wanted more intrigue more mystery and more use of the magic. The pacing felt slow and found myself wanting to skim read parts not relevant to the main plot.

However, the cozy tea room vibes are immaculate. I love the ladies of the town coming to gossip and get their fortunes read while eating just lovingly described treats. Oh and the tea of course. And the house! The house is my favorite character.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC! All opinions are my own.

If you’re wanting a witchy book for fall that’s not a romance, I highly recommend this one. Anne, Beatrix, and Violet are triplet witches, that run the coziest tearoom. They are called on by the Council of Witches and their lives start taking paths they didn’t expect. This is a beautiful book of sisterhood and what happens when familial bonds are put to the test. It showed what it meant to start a new path with figuring out what that meant for the old one. It explored how sisterhood changes as they work towards their own goals, instead of collective goals. I just loved this story. It was sweet and sad, heartwarming and nostalgic, and left me full of hope.

If you are looking for a heartwarming, cozy, witchy story for fall, then The Crescent Moon Tea Room is your book.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆?

I really enjoyed getting to know the sisters and how their fates were intertwined, but still were individuals with different desires and witchy gifts. As the story progressed, it was wonderful to see the sisters work together to protect each other even though they harbor their own dreams and desires separate from their lives working and living together.

Also, seeing each sister begin her own journey while weaving in a mystery, obstacles and magic made for an intriguing reading experience.

Oh! And each chapter starts with an explanation of an image that could be found within the tea leaves at the bottom of a cup.

The Crescent Moon Tearoom by Stacy Sivinski is a great, warming, and heartfelt fiction that is both a contemporary fiction and a magical experience all in one.

I really liked being introduced to sisters: Anne, Beatrix, and Violet Quigley. Their fates weave them together just as much as the familial and blood ties and yet they each have their own passions, talents, and hopes.

The pacing, plot as it develops, and the magical threads are beautifully written and blossom with each page. Seeing the individual and combined journeys along with the magic, mystery, and obstacles found in this realm and in the next make for a great experience.

4.5/5 stars

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for an advanced copy of "The Crescent Moon Tea Room" by Stacy Sivinski.

Triplet witch sisters own a cozy tea room where they serve tea, pastries and fortunes. They soon discover that they are starting to forge their own paths. Anne, whose powers are the strongest any witch has seen in decades, struggles with letting go of the past. Beatrix is delving into a new power while writing a book. Violet dreams of flying. The three sisters must figure out a way to help three elderly witches find their Task all the while trying to break a curse. Will they be torn apart by these trials?

I can't believe this is a debut novel by Stacy Sivinski. This book was so heartwarming and cozy! 5 cups of tea for me. I will definitely be getting a physical copy on October 1, 2024 so I can annotate in it!

This says "a cozy and uplifting debut" and I agree. This was just a cozy witchy read. I think I am ready for Fall. We have orphaned witch triplets that run a tearoom. They read the tea leaves for their customers about what their futures hold. But the Council of Witches has come to call on them. The Council gives them a task and if they are not able to complete it, they will close the tearoom. But as the sisters start thinking about it, would it be so bad to move on with their lives and try other things? They have been together their whole lives, but each one is scared to tell the others about her thoughts and dreams. I loved the sisters. I enjoyed this one and felt it was a cozy read and a witchy read so I thought it was great for the Fall. It is a quick read and the cover is beautiful.

4.5 stars. What an absolutely delicious novel.

It’s a perfect cozy fantasy: the main plot equally weaves alongside the characters’ development. It would’ve been easy to let the readers get distracted or bogged down with POVs from each sister but this story weaves them in the most natural, conversational way. Anne, Beatrix, and Violet are all such interesting characters in their own way, and I really enjoyed how they worked through the struggle of wanting change but also to keep things exactly as they are.

An amazing debut novel - wholeheartedly recommend for someone looking for a book that reads like a perfect cup of tea.

⋆⋆½ — honestly, after reading the blurb again, i am definitely not the target audience for this book. so this review means nothing. i don't usually enjoy cozy fantasy, but i requested this anyway because i have loved other nothingburger plotless books in the past (the night circus, emily wilde, the floating hotel). however, neither the characters nor the prose in this was enough to enchant me the way the above novels did, and the worldbuilding was almost nonexistent. but i did like the last six or so chapters, so there's that.

thank you to netgalley for the advanced copy.

Thank you to @netgalley, @atriabooks, and @stacy_sivinski for the gifted e-book.

This captivating debut novel is an enchanting blend of cozy atmosphere and witchy charm. From the very first page, I found myself utterly spellbound by the entwined lives of the three sisters as they embarked on a journey of self-discovery. The portrayal of their bond unraveling as they pursued their individual destinies was both poignant and mesmerizing. The addition of the enchanted house, attuned to their emotions, added an extra layer of magic to the story.

The author's skillful writing brought the teas and their meanings to life, making them almost tangible for the reader. The delightful tea cup illustrations and the tea reading interpretations at the beginning of each chapter were a delightful touch that added depth to the narrative.

If you're a fan of cozy, witchy tales, I wholeheartedly recommend immersing yourself in the enchanting world of this book. It's a truly bewitching read that will leave you longing for more.

ARC Review

Book: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: No spice

Summary: A cozy fantasy about three sisters who owned a tearoom where they read their customers tea cups. Everything turned upside down when the council of witches come to give them an ultimatum: they have to find the life task of three witches or they loose the tearoom. Will they be able to find them and at what price?

Review:

Thank you so much to @simonandschusterca for this arc! 😊

This book was really the definition of a cozy fantasy. The setting, the storyline, the characters development, everything was cozy and was clearly fitting the September/October vibes.🍂

I liked this story, but I’m not a huge fan of cozy fantasy and this book confirmed that fact. 🙈 The story was really well thought of and the characters are so different from each others but all lovable. It was also a great story about the relationship between sisters and their individual journey in life.

I had trouble getting in the story in the first half of the book but it clearly got better the more I read!

Overall, cozy fantasy fan clearly should give it a try and if you want a book to start your cozy fantasy journey, I think it’s a great start!🙌🏻

Happy reading!

When people say this book is cozy, they TRULY mean it. This will be a perfect read for October! I just wanted earthy candles, comfy socks, and a warm cup of tea to go with this book, but I read it in the middle of summer in TX so opted for iced sweet tea & air conditioning.

If you want something light hearted, witchy, and family bond oriented, THIS IS YOUR BOOK. I was immersed from the beginning and couldn’t wait to see what unfolded 🖤

I was so excited to win this as my 1st GR giveaway!

A cozy, gentle, witchy story of family and the importance of forging your own path and identity. Nothing too deep or high-stakes. Perfect for a fall afternoon with a PSL and a blanket tucked up around you.

Also, if I could have a house that does the dishes and pulls my chair closer to the fire when I'm melancholy, I'd never leave!

I adored this cozy, witchy, debut soooo much!!!

The story features three triplet clairvoyant sisters being tested as they fight to keep their tearoom/fortune telling business while having to complete three tasks mandated by the Witches council AND having to fight to keep their sisterly bonds close while they grow as individuals.

Great on audio, this was a compelling and interesting story that I devoured! Highly recommended for fans of authors like Kate Johnson and books like The spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst.

This book is every thing I wanted it to be and more. It is the perfect cozy read that just feels like a hug! Our main characters Anne, Violet, and Beatrix absolutely have my heart! Their enchanted house was so endearing and reminded me of the ocean from the movie Moana in the ways that it reacted to certain things throughout the story. I also loved that at the beginning of each chapter there was a description of an image that could be found within the tea leaves at the bottom of a cup.🫶

This book about 3 sisters who just happen to be triplets and witches.  After their parents pass away, they open a tea room in the shop on the ground floor of the house they grew up in.   They spend their days giving customers glimpses of their future by reading their tea leaves.  One day the sisters are visited by The Council, who assigns them a task that has to be completed by the sisters next birthday.  If they don’t complete the task they will have to close the tearoom.  At the same time, the sisters are each going through their own struggles of wanting to follow their dreams but at the same time wanting things to stay the same.  This is a story about choosing your own path and growing into the person you become.

I love books about sisters, probably because I’m so close to mine, so I knew I was going to love this one.  This is a great book for fall because it has that cozy fairytale, witchy vibe feeling.  I loved the little tea cup illustrations and tea reading meanings at the beginning of each chapter.  They made me want to make myself a cup of tea to see if I could read them for myself but I didn’t have any loose tea in the house.  I also loved that the house was its own character.  I wish my house could magically clean itself and do the dishes.

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for sharing this book with me for my honest review.

The Three Magical Sisters is an old trope--I'm a Charmed fan myself--and no matter the setting, it's the siblings relationship that can make or break the story. Sivinski succeeds in creating identical, but very individual, triplet sisters running a magical tea room in late 19th century Chicago, and readers will wish they could get there and have one of the sisters (preferably Anne) and read their future from the leaves in their fine china cup!

I really enjoyed this debut novel by Stacy Sivinski! It was exactly what I was hoping it would be - a cute and cozy fantasy with a bit of mystery and whimsy. The Quigley sisters are witches living in Chicago, peacefully running a teashop where they read patrons' futures in the tea leaves, when strange things begin to happen and they're faced with a challenge they worry they won't be able to complete. This is a story of both sisterhood and friendship but also independence and finding your own place in the world. The writing was lovely with many poignant lines. I definitely will recommend this novel to friends who enjoy fantasy and based on this, will plan to read future books by Stacy Sivinski.

There was nothing "wrong" with this book, it just wasn't for me. The writing itself was good and I think for people who enjoy cozy fantasy and witch stories that are on the sweet/non-spooky side, this would be a home run. I personally prefer a bit more plot than what this book was intended for, and I found myself putting it down every chapter or two and having a hard time picking it back up because I didn't feel any anticipation for what was to come. For what it's worth, I felt the same about Legends and Lattes which plenty of people really seem to adore, so if cozy fantasy is your thing, I still think it's worth giving this one a try!

The bonds of sisterhood in Practical Magic meets the enchanted house in Encanto in this cozy, witchy fantasy book.

Three sisters, Violet, Beatrix, and Anne run a tea room, aptly named The Crescent Moon Tearoom, where they read their customers' futures from tea leaves. One day, they receive a message from the Council of Witches requiring assistance in aiding other witches discover their “life task” before they pass on. If they do not succeed, the council will take away their lovely shop.

Throughout the story, each sister discovers something about themselves that will either help in their tasks or be the reason for their downfall. Anne discovers her magic might be more intricate than her sisters, Beatrix is engrossed in her writing and reading her mother’s diary, and Violet is mysteriously drawn to a circus on the edge of town along with a certain trapeze artist. Sivinski creates a world in which you can easily fall into. From the first page you’re entered into a warm, inviting space that tells a story of family, magic, and the importance of being honest and true to yourself.

'Violet had always believed that she and her sisters were in the business of ruining surprises. they were the cousins who peeked past the paper wrapping on Yuletide presents and reported their findings to their younger relatives, who were pleased by the news of their gifts but paid for that foresight with the loss of wonder.'

Something I really enjoyed about this book was the writing style. With its third person omniscient narration, every single character, big or small, is given an incredible part in this story. Even the house has thoughts about what’s going on! Fans of Under the Whispering Door and Legends and Lattes will devour this enchanting tale.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Stacy Sivinski for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for The Crescent Moon Tearoom coming out October 1, 2024. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Ever since the untimely death of their parents, Anne, Beatrix, and Violet Quigley have made a business of threading together the stories that rest in the swirls of ginger, cloves, and cardamon that lie at the bottom of their customers’ cups.

As Anne’s magic begins to develop beyond that of her sisters’, Beatrix’s writing attracts the attention of a publisher, and Violet is enchanted by the song of the circus—and perhaps a mischievous trapeze artist threatening to sweep her off her feet—it seems a family curse that threatens to separate the sisters is taking effect.

With dwindling time to rewrite their future and help three other witches challenge their own destinies, the Quigleys set out to bargain with Fate. But in focusing so closely on saving each other, will they lose sight of themselves?

I’ve read a lot of witch stories lately! I really love witches and cozy autumn vibes! I didn’t know what to expect with this book. I love sister stories. It felt a little like Charmed with the three sisters. I really enjoyed this story. They had different personalities. I loved the tea shop. I would definitely read other books by this author!

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys cozy witch stories!
