By day, I am a middle school teacher. I spend much of my time grading papers, filling out paperwork, and trying to get 6th- and 7th- graders to read.

When I am not at work, I can generally be found at the computer, dreaming up stories about men falling in love. When I have spare time (which is unfortunately not too often anymore!) I read romance of all kinds. Occasionally I pretend to do housework, but my hubby isn't fooled!

Eric is convinced that he is not meant to be loved. He has been hurt by all who have ever claimed to love him in the past (family, former lovers) and he has finally given up. Why open your heart to someone when you know it will only get crushed again? Then he meets Dex.

Dex is a famous author who is staying at the resort where Eric is an assistant manager, Fantasies: Hawaii. There is instant chemistry between the two men but Eric knows better than to get involved. He is busy trying to handle the resort's preparations for the New Year's Eve party for one, and secondly, he's not foolish enough to believe that some famous author from New York is actually interested in him for more than a quick fling.

Dex is tired of being alone, lonely. Meeting Eric looks to be the best thing that has ever happened to him. After a bit of skittishness on Eric's part, he finally allows Dex in... only to to be devastated by a misunderstanding. With a little planning and making sure Eric is not in a position to walk away during Dex's explanation, the misunderstanding is cleared up and the two men find their HEA.

Because of the short length of the story, some important details were left out but not enough to take away from the story as a whole. There is insta-love but the author does throw in a quick Epilogue showing Eric and Dex farther down the road in their relationship. A nice, quick read. I look forward to reading the other Fantasies stories.

Eric is convinced he isn’t meant to be loved. He’s been hurt one time too many and since being deceived by a past lover, is determined not to make the same mistake twice by falling for another of the hotel’s customers. His resolve crumbles when the Director asks him to keep a close eye on famous crime writer Dexter and he discovers it might not be as easy as he thought.

My heart broke for Eric and his past so I was glad to see sweet, dominant Dexter break through his walls and gain his trust with gentle and very loving persistence. Since Dexter is just as lonely as Eric and just as attracted, he's the perfect man to show Eric there is a man out there just for him.

This was a great first book to the Fantasies series and I started in on the second one straight after finishing this one with great hopes for the rest of the series.

I think this is a first story of a series involving guys staying at Fantasies Resort. I enjoy this first one, though the part where Eric "succumbs" to Dexter after being heartbroken is a bit too fast. Maybe because this one is a novella, so things seem to resolve fast. Still, I like it enough

Hawaii has always seemed like a place where romance can bloom and that was definitely the case for Eric and Dex. Eric was the classic case of “once burned, twice shy”, but it was great to see Dex work past that barrier and Eric finally open up his heart again. While short in length, this novella covered a lot of territory with the help of an epilogue following up one year later. Very nice:)

i gave it 2 stars only because there were worse books and it wasn't as painful to read as them.
It was boring first of all. then, there was no real plot. it wasn't a simle slash either and i have no idea what it really was about. the story felt like: "oh,hi i'm eric" "hey, call me dex" next day - let's eat, kiss and talk, and then BOOM "i care about You". blah blah blah.
