I've been into true crime (books, YouTubers, documentaries etc) for a while now but I don't think I've reviewed a book in the genre yet so Psycho.com will be my first. How exciting! Oh and I could hardly stop reading so I really enjoyed it!

This book covers three nightmarish cases where the internet somehow has played a role in the murders these people commited. The cases are about:

Dnepropetrovsk Maniacs, aka the Hammer Maniacs

Pedro Rodrigues Filho, aka Pedrinho Matador, aka Killer Petey

Mark Twitchell, aka Dexter Serial Killer

I was only familiar with Mark Twitchell but the other two were completely new to me. But oh boy these cases were WILD. And that's exactly why I had such a hard time to put the book down. I just wanted to keep on reading to find out what would happen next and how the serial killers were going to be caught.

I've got to really give two thumbs up to the author because I felt like it was a thoroughly researched and well-written book. It was detailed but not in a way where things become boring or hard to read. Even with the Dexter serial killer I learned some things that I hadn't known before so that was really great!

Psycho.com: serial killers on the internet by Eileen Ormsby was a dark but very fascinating read. These serial killers will haunt you in your dreams, mark my words.

Three disturbing stories of serial killers that have used the Internet to find their victims / show the murders.

This book is quite graphic, quite detailed but does so in a way that is relevant and not just for the shock value. This book highlights just three of the awful people in the world.

An insightful look into the minds of three serial killers who show no mercy. The perfect book for a true crime fan!

The writing was really well done but I couldn't with the content. It was just too much for me, this is coming from a person who takes in true crime from many different media types.

Why can I not get into more killer stories?! I was hoping this one would be goretastic - which it was - I was hoping to feel a bit unsettled - which I was, mainly because of the current situation in the world and how everyone is meeting online now, though the chances are low it's always possible, it hit home, however, it was just not very well written to me, it was fact heavy (not terrible) and I got confused by the very beginning of the book I don't think it needed the extra chapter - oh well, onto the next adventure

Post modern serial killers?

This book is apt as her Afterward pointed out, that the 25-50 likely roaming serial killers in the U.S. alone are probably using the internet. There are new cases all the time of predators using their phones to capture their carnage. I enjoyed the story of Brazilian Pete and while I have no interest in watching his social media accounts, I can see why some are attracted to it. The idea of some kind of vigilante meeting out justice by killing "bad" people obviously appeals to many as proven by the phenomenon that is Dexter. The story of the Ukrainian maniacs was not the sort of TC I usually read because I don't like gore and as usual did not heed the warning to skip the animal torture chapter. I knew about Mark T. but learned a great deal more about the case here. Good book but not quite as engrossing for me as her other books.

Eh. It was alright. Not as gory and gruesome as a lot of other reviews said it was but it was interesting.

A lot of the information was borderline and i probably could have learned the same thing by doing a quick google search but i did find it interesting how so much of the book was dedicated to the victims and fleshing out their story. This is why the book gets three stars instead of two.

I think so often, especially with serial killer stories, the victim is causally forgotten or chalked down to a name with no face. but Pyscho.com did a good job of giving life to those that were killed and kept it very respectful and informative.

Still, i would have liked to know more about the why. there was little explanation behind motives and even less on physiological reasons and factors behind their psychopathy. I mean— I want to know the chemical imbalances in their brain and what made them tick, not just that they killed, we know that part already. tell me *why*.

Overall the book was informative, not exactly my favorite but it could have been significantly worse.

This was a fantastic read that had me hooked from the get go, we read about 3 true crimes which is fascinating all on its own, but what I loved most about the book is it wasn't just about the killers and what made them tick, but also focused on the victims who deserved to be remembered just as much if not more. This is a great insight into the whole view of Pedro Rodrigues Filho, aka Pedrinho Matador, aka Killer Petey, Dnepropetrovsk Maniacs, aka the Hammer Maniacs and Mark Twitchell, aka Dexter Serial Killer. The books has a great flow and provides exceptional detail and being the first book I have read of Eileen Ormsby I will definitely be going back to read more by her.

This is our first e-book True Crime review (courtesy of Kindle Unlimited) and we are pleased to report that;

A) we read it in one sitting and B) there are more books in the series!!

This is a wonderfully twisted exploration of criminal and human insanity. All of the required details are there; narcissism, psychopathy, fantasy, and necrophilia. The book is nicely split into three different parts, telling three true crime stories from around the globe, in relatively recent criminal history. Each crime has pure murderous intent at its heart and infamous due to internet/youtube folklore.

Each story is in a factual narrative, that's subjective when required, forensically analytical, gory, and possibly not one for the faint-hearted.

Online omniscient obsessions have undoubtedly changed the world we all live in. This book is a good start in the dark web series.

2.5.

It's okay, but it doesn't really go beyond the basic retelling of the stories, giving it all a bit of a morbid vibe at points, despite the pretense to explore the psychology in more detail. Also, to me as a sort of a Russian speaker, it's also one of those cases proving that sometimes when researching you should learn the language of the context of the research. It not only allows to avoid inaccuracies, but also gives a chance for a more in-depth exploration.

This doesn't mean the book is totally garbage though - it's an overall okay overview of some lesser-known, but extremely horrifying tales. Worth a sit-down, if you're into that sort of stuff.

Psycho.com is the first book in the Dark Webs series and is a must-read for fans of true crime.

These true crime stories of psychopaths who became online sensations are intriguing and horrifying at the same time. Thoroughly researched and well written, this book brings some lesser-known crimes to light with meticulous detail.

I am looking forward to reading more by this author.

Chilling story about 3 teenagers going on a killing spree that made no sense and how long it took to catch them, how money makes people feel entitled.
Killer Petey is the one who enlists some sympathy. Killing those who you could almost say deserved it.
Sk, planning and writing your own diary on how to become and first kill of a serial killer. He does a lot of planning

52 Book Club 2023 Reading Challenge- Prompt 50: Related to the word 'Murder'

3.5/5

An interesting (if graphic) overview of several cases I had only heard about in passing. The writing style was clear and easy to read, though marred by several minor typos.

Reader discretion is very much advised though, because while the author does not gleefully flaunt the gorier details of each case, they certain do not shy away from them either. Overall, this was a very...visceral read.

The first story was amazing and very well written. The second story was ok, and again, well written. The third story wasn't very good; the writing was ok. It seemed as though the more the author wrote, the less the stories meant to her.

There were a few grammatical errors, which is a huge no-no for me.

This book isn't one I'd recommend, but if the first story was a standalone, I would recommend it.

These were terrifying case studies, Being a true crime buff it is hard to find new cases i haven't heard a 100 times. Most of these were new and shocking to me. The author wrote in a way that stays true to the story and honors the details and most importantly shine a light on the internet being a new avenue for crime. I must check out her other novels.

Just as described

I am a true crime buff and have been for many years. This book focuses on three serial killers all who are involved with the Internet. Fast read and fact filled, these were stories I was not previously familiar with. I appreciated the author's warning on one chapters content as I did choose to skip over it. I will be reading her other books.

Very in detail. The author takes you and walks you through the story as though it is a film you are watching.
If you enjoy true crime stories with a bit of gore this one is for you.

Great stories if your into a more obscure true crime.

I really enjoyed this book. I’m reading the series and while it’s a sad and at times gruesome and really shows evil people. It’s very good. Factual. Kinda scary. Really evil.

Fun as an audiobook. Well written and engaging throughout, especially the last case with the online dating killer. Paid attention and respect to the victims in a way that is often overlooked in this genre.
