Shape context describes all boundary points of a shape with respect to any single boundary point. Thus it is descriptive of the shape of the object. Object recognition can be achieved by matching this feature with a priori knowledge of the shape context of the boundary points of the object.

To achieve scale invariance we normalize all radial distances by the mean distance between the n2 point pairs in the shape.

Abstract. We present an algorithm for shape matching and recognition based on a generative model for how one shape can be generated by the other.
We develop an approach to object recognition based on match(cid:173) ing shapes and using a resulting measure of similarity in a nearest neighbor classifier.
We present a novel approach to measuring similarity between shapes and exploit it for object recognition.
