Minister for Gozo presents children's books to Gozo's Public LibraryIn an event held this morning, the Minister for Gozo, Dr. Anton Refalo, presented a series of Children’s books to the Gozo Public Lending Library.

The Minister for Gozo said that the procurement of these books was done through ecoGozo’s funds. The main scope behind this imitative is to give children the opportunity to appreciate the value of books and reading from an early age, as well as to encourage them to start using local libraries.

“Furthermore, the procurement of these books will keep our libraries up to date, while giving the reader a greater variety of books to choose from.”

The procurement of books and the subsequent donation to Gozo’s libraries has become a yearly initiative taken by the Ministry for Gozo through the ecoGozo directorate.

The books purchased this year target children aged between 3 and 7 years. The incorporation of text with colourful pictures will help these children start loving books from an early age.

“This initiative will motivate Gozitan children to start reading and eventually become fluent readers. If children are encouraged to visit our public libraries, they can begin a lifelong relationship with the printed word that will eventually enrich their minds,” the Minister said.

As part of the event, a rotating children’s bookshelf was also unveiled. The shelf was built by employees within the Projects Directorate.

The event was attended by a number of students from the Bishop’s Conservatory and St. Francis Primary Schools. These students were read stories and also participated in some fun activities. They were also presented with a library card.

The Minister concluded the event by reiterating the importance of advertising book reading with our children and promised that the Ministry for Gozo will keep investing in Gozitan students and the educational sector in Gozo.
