Let’s address that WHY in the title first! I own 5 grills, my grilling girlfriends own more than 50 grills between the two of them! Yes, it is okay to own multiple grills!
Different grills deliver different textures and flavors in foods. Think of this way, you own a microwave and an oven. You have a choice when it comes to making popcorn.
Choose the stovetop method because you enjoying the entire experience: pouring oil into a hot pot, listening to the clacking of hundreds of corn kernels, vigorously shaking the pan, dodging the flying popcorn when the lid comes off, slowly pouring melted butter, and adding just enough salt to satisfy.
It’s an experience. Make popcorn in the microwave and it’s because you enjoy neat, predictable, portion control, and no cleanup! At the end of both cooking experiences, you will have delicious popcorn! The same goes for my grills except I haven’t grilled popcorn yet!
The same goes to why I own an air fryer, sous vide machine, Instant Pot, and slow cooker. What method of cooking I choose is based on texture, flavor, and time.
In writing the above, I suddenly feel totally at peace as to why it is okay in owning 5 grills. So thank you for listening. I have come to appreciate that each of my grills has it’s own purpose, and rewards me in a different way!
GRILLING GRANDMA’S GRILLS
WEBER KETTLE
Average Cost $150
This little baby has been in my family for about 30 years! My sister gave it to me in one of her many moves. When my son is in town, and if I am grilling on my propane Weber, he tosses a hunk of meat and wood into Baby Weber and closes the lid. Magically, that little grill becomes a smoker, and we feast on deliciousness.
Weber Kettles have been around longer than I have been! Whoa…my birth year is 1954 and Baby Weber first revolutionized grilling in 1952! The grill is indestructible and very affordable, costing around $150. The porcelain enamle finish can endure harsh weather….well actually, I live in Southern California so maybe I don’t know. All I do know is that my little green, 30-year-old, 363 sq. in. cooking platform grill, looks almost brand new. I don’t look so brand new…so Baby Weber is aging better than I am.
WEBER GENESIS II GAS GRILL
Average Cost $1000
As a child, I remember Dad and Grandpa grilling up absolutely scrumptious charred yet juicy meats. You can say, smoking and grilling are in my DNA! Dad was a master at adding wood chunks and twigs to infuse the meat with just enough flavor. He always owned a Weber Kettle until 1985 when Weber came out with an innovative and revolutionary gas barbecue.
From that point on, all I can remember are Weber Gas Grills.
The quality was superb, and we were hooked, Weber entered our DNA. When my son got married, I gave him a big new Weber Propane Grill. When my son-in-law and daughter bought their first home, their housewarming gift was a new Genesis Weber! I am not rich, and the cost of a Weber Genesis is a lot for my pocketbook.
But, I VALUE OUTDOOR GRILLING EXPERIENCE so much I am willing to invest. Weber Grills, have an amazing legacy in my family, thanks to my Dad and Grandpa.
Propane grilling is very predictable, and it is easy to adjust the heat level. Buy a small smoker box and wood chips; it’s so fun to add smoky flavor to your favorite grilled dishes.
My favorite feature about my Weber Genesis is the Electric Rotisserie! Chicken and Prime Rib are absolutely the best and far tastier than any restaurant. BE sure to buy this accessory, Grilling Grandma says so!
PRIMO OVAL CERAMIC GRILL XL 400
Average Cost $1,700
You can imagine how excited I was when invited to be part of #TeamPrimo. Our team’s mission is to make mouth-watering delicious dishes on Primo Ceramic Grills! We were provided ceramic grills! I was a bit intimidated with my Primo Ceramic Grill at first. Could I really smoke and grill meat, veggies, and seafood?
Could a grandma really take up smoking? Okay, not those yucky things that hang out of your mouth…you know what I mean!
After watching videos, and reading everything I could on grilling foods in a Kamado grill (ceramic smoker), I smoked a Spatchcock Chicken. The chicken was moist, lightly smoked, and absolutely tasty enough for a holiday table. From that point on, every dish I grilled or smoked on the Primo has been scrumptious.
The basic rules of smoking food in a Kamado grill are easy to learn. I highly, encourage you to take the Smoking Foods Adventure!
By the way, Primo Grills was established in 1996! In the fall of 2019, Primo Ceramic Grills was acquired by Empire Comfort Systems. Today, Primo Ceramic Grills are manufactured in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and headquarter in Belleville, Illinois.
I find cooking on my Primo Ceramic Grill very rewarding! The food comes out moist and flavorful. I feel empowered when I fling around a 20-pound bag of lump charcoal and strike up a fire.
BREEO
Average Cost $700
I bought my Breeo on a “natural high” returning home from Bryce National Park’s Social Feasts week. I hung-out, cooked, grilled, and smoked yummy dishes, with my live fire tribe. Breeo’s representative stayed the whole time demonstrating and letting the team cook on his amazing smokeless fire pit. We all soaked in the enjoyment of laughter, shop talk, and fascinating tales around that fire!
We grilled steaks, warmed cookies, baked bread on it!
The Breeo fire pit is so alluring, Ally and I headed home and immediately bought a 24” Breeo Fire Pit! Memories around fire pits give me a “natural high”. I’ve cooked on out once.
Don’t judge me, I promise to cook more on it this summer…or once pandemic restrictions lift.
The Breeo, like the Primo, is made in the USA!
BEEFER
Around the same time as I received a Primo Ceramic Grill, I happily received a Beefer.
What is a Beefer?
A small propane cooking device for anyone who wants to create that restaurant-quality crust on steaks!
At first, I thought of the Beefer as a broiler on steroids. What the heck? I began developing recipes for the little box grill with reluctance. Time went on, recipes turned into deliciousness, grill time was quick and simple, and today I really love the Beefer!
Its 1500°F ceramic heating element is so simple to control…just be careful cuz you can blacken meat in 30 seconds! I actually find the Beefer effortless so I find myself cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner dishes in it multiple times a week.
The Beefer is perfect for those who have a small space on their back porch. The little yet powerful grill is perfect for a family of 2 or 3. I have packed it into a truck to take on a camp trip. And once Hubby buys a motorhome, the Beefer will be our traveling companion for quick and easy meals.
