VISITATION: Thursday, September 15^th from 5pm to 7pm at the West Center Chapel, followed by VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm.  MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Friday, September 16^th at 10:30am, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3122 S. 74^th St.  Interment, Resurrection Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials will be directed by the family.

Everett James Henry was born Saturday, February 1, 1997 at 4:30 p.m. at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. He was born on the prettiest day in February! He was the first-born son of Doug and Vikki (Czaplewski) Henry. Everett was named after his grandpas – Wesley Everett Henry and James Robert Czaplewski. He was always a happy kid who loved spending time with his family, playing outside, solving puzzles and teaching himself new skills on the computer. From an early age he volunteered with his family around Omaha helping people and animals alike. He took his role as older brother to Darien and Erik very seriously.

He was a part of the Douglas-Sarpy County 4-H program since he was 8 years old. He spent many years working on 4-H projects and exhibiting them at the Sarpy County and Nebraska State Fairs. Everett participated in Plant ID contests at the State Fair and was on the team, along with his brother Darien, that went to Nationals and won 2nd place! He was also an instructor for the 4-H Shooting Sports program which led to him getting a job with the City of Omaha’s Outdoor Ed program. He worked at Hummel Park for three summers and became known to all as “Archery Everett”. Even after his time at Hummel ended his impact was lasting. Former campers would see him around town, run up to him, hug him, and would be so excited to see Archery Everett!

Everett attended Loveland Elementary School, Westside Middle and High Schools where he graduated in 2015. He was awarded a Regents scholarship and spent a year at UNL, then returned home where he completed his Associate’s Degree in Horticulture at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha. He was finishing his Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources with an emphasis in Urban Forestry from Oregon State University.

He started working at Boys Town in the Grounds Department as an Equipment Operator in November of 2018. He was excited for his first full time job, and wanted to learn all that he could. He taught himself GPS and drone mapping to better learn about all the trees in his care. He not only operated all kinds of equipment, he loved learning how to fix each machine himself. He even took those skills a step farther and was restoring a vintage VW bug! Everett took great pride in knowing every inch of Boys Town was cared for.

Outside of work he studied hard and passed his exams for both the Nebraska Arborists Association license and the International Society of Arboriculture. He loved trees and the challenge of climbing and caring for them. You would often find him up in the trees at friends and family’s houses. His pursuit of knowledge was endless and his adventures were boundless. On any given week you would find him taking pictures of stars and nature, discovering a new ice cream shop or winery, and simply loving life.

Everett left us on Friday, September 9, 2022 at the age of 25 years, seven months and eight days. He was very loved by all of his friends and family and will be missed every day until we meet again. He loved flannel – feel free to wear flannel to the visitation and/or the funeral.

He is survived by his parents, Douglas and Vikki Henry, his younger brothers Darien (wife Allison) and Erik; his best friend, Jessica Dunning; maternal grandmother Arvada Czaplewski; uncle and aunt Allen and ReNee Henry; friends Mary Grace and Greg Hansen; uncles and aunts Vivian and Dennis Runnels, Wanda Clements, Russ and Peggy Czaplewski, Rick Czaplewski, Rob and Amy Czaplewski and Valeri and Ryan McMahon; cousins Kiersten, Jordan, Nathan, Andrew, Joel, Joy, Chet, Jenna, Erin and Breckyn; and many special family and friends who loved him and he met along the way. Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents Wesley and Viola Henry and his maternal grandfather James Czaplewski who we are sure welcomed him with open arms when he arrived in Heaven.

His visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022 from 5 – 7 p.m. with a wake at 7 p.m. This will be held at Heafey Hoffmann Dworak & Cutler’s West Center Chapel at 7805 W Center Road in Omaha. His funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, 2022 at St. Joan of Arc Church at 3122 S 74th St in Omaha, burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. There will be lunch at the funeral home afterwards.
