Carmelo Anthony on if Knicks should retire his jersey: 'I would love to see that...why wait?'
“Why not?” That was Carmelo Anthony’s response when asked if his No. 7 jersey should be retired by the Knicks. Anthony was at the Final Four at the Alamodome on Saturday for the announcement that he was being inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. “I would love to see that,” the 10-time NBA All-Star said. “For me, it’s like, ‘Why wait?’ If you got to think about it then cool, just let it be.”
And Anthony thinks the 6-foot-9 freshman has a good shot. “I think what we’re seeing with Cooper is — he has some similarities to the run that I had,” Anthony said in response to a question from NJ Advance Media after being named to the Naismith Hall of Fame Class of 2025. “You have to take your hat off to Coach [Jon] Scheyer because the way he was able to orchestrate that team and put the pieces around Cooper so he can be able to go out there and flourish and do what he do and become the National Player of the Year.”
