Elon Musk Says Tesla Model S Price Is Going Down To...Well, You Can Probably Guess!

Elon Musk is having fun with numbers again.

On Wednesday, the Tesla CEO announced that the price of Tesla Model S will be reduced to $69,420.

This is not the first time Musk has referenced the number "420," which symbolizes weed culture; in 2018, he infamously announced he's considering taking Tesla private at $420 per share, which got him in trouble with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The "69" reference perhaps isn't surprising for someone who named his cars SEXY (Model S, Model 3, Model X and Model Y).

Funny numbers aside, this is the second time Tesla has lowered the Model S price this week. Just yesterday, the company reduced the price from $74,990 to $71,990. Now, you can buy the cheapest Model S for $5,570 less than you could just three days ago.

The price hikes are a likely reaction to competitor Lucid, which announced its Lucid Air electric sedan for $69,900 on Wednesday.

Note that the price of Model S is without government incentives, which Tesla buyers aren't eligible for anymore. The price of Lucid Air is actually $77,400 before incentives.

In response to a question on Twitter, Musk also shared some news about the Model Y. The seven-seater version of the electric SUV will go into production in November, with initial deliveries in early December, Musk said.
