‘I want to go to kidnap you happily’: Gurgaon resident shares ‘terrifying’ Uber chat; netizens speculate
While the Gurgaon resident’s story shocked many Reddit users, others speculated on the reason behind the incident.
A Gurgaon resident recently shared a chilling experience on Reddit’s r/gurgaon forum that left the person shaken in the middle of the night. User kushpyro1 recounted how an unsettling message from an Uber driver prompted the user to cancel the ride and rush back home.
The incident occurred when the user booked a Priority Sedan on Uber to reach a train station for a journey that was only an hour away. “I am shivering while writing this right now,” the user began, describing the panic. As the driver approached, the user opened the app to double-check the OTP and stumbled upon an unnerving message in the Uber chat.
The rider had written, “I am here. Anand Vihar Terminal drop. Please come.” To this, the driver responded with, “Go to Anand Vihar. I want to go to kidnap you happily.”
The bizarre text left the Gurgaon resident horrified. “It was 4 a.m., I was running on barely any sleep, and reading that message from someone right outside my house was terrifying,” the resident wrote. Acting on instinct, the person tried to cancel the ride, but then the driver cancelled it himself.
Reddit user kushpyro1 ran back home, taking a screenshot of the chat moments before it disappeared.

While the story shocked many, others started interpreting the reason behind the messages.
One user guessed, “Drop would have got autocorrected to “kidnap”. When the driver understood his mistake, I guess , he got frightened and hence cancelled ride and bolted. But really point of concern is that any guy has to use the word “kidnap” very frequently to get an autocorrect recommendation of kidnap which is not naturally promoted by the auto correct engine!!!!”
Another user wrote, “Feels like translation mishap or autocorrect. Coz the sentence does not seem to make any sense at all.”
A third person commented, “Believe he was using hindi keyboard which was translating it for you some words went south and you got that text.”
A fourth individual gave an update, “To the people saying that it is auto-translated. I have checked around 8+ native language queries to English and nothing translates to “kidnap” except the word “apaharan””.
