Japan Airlines hit by cyberattack, some flights delayed

The airline in a statement said that it had stopped booking flights for Thursday and its mobile app was disabled temporarily. The attack, which began at around 7:24am, has affected the external and internal system of the airline.
The Japan Airline said, “We have identified the scope of the impact and are currently checking the status of the system recovery,” adding that the airline has been experiencing “malfunctions in systems communicating with external systems.”
According to a New York Times report, around 40 flights were delayed across various airports in Japan until 12pm. However, Japan’s public broadcaster NHK stated that there were no mass cancellations.
The full extent of the cyber attack is still being investigated while Japan Airlines was working to resume the operations as early as possible.
Meanwhile, ANA Holdings, which is another major airline of Japan, saw no disruption in its operations, Reuters reported.
