Kaala stills: Superstar Rajinikanth’s anti-establishment don looks majestic

Rajinikanth's next big release Kaala is around the corner. The film which arrives on June 7, has the Thalaiver playing a don and a champion of the downtrodden operating in a slum. With the Superstar in the lead, the film also has Nana Patekar in the villain's role. Directed by Pa. Ranjith, also stars Huma Qureshi, Samuthirakani, Pankaj Tripathi, and Easwari Rao. The film is set in Mumbai's Dharavi, which was once the largest slum in Asia (now overtaken by Orangi Town of Karachi).

On the other hand, Nana Patekar plays a politician named Harinath Desai.

Kaala was previously scheduled to release in April, but the strike by Tamil film industry delayed it.

This is Rajinikanth's first feature film after 2016's Kabali, which was, incidentally, also directed by Pa. Ranjith.

Recently, Kaala got its own fiery Twitter emoji. The emoji appears when the name of the film is typed in English, Tamil, and Telugu.

The Twitter emoji is Rajini's look in the film against a dark backdrop.

Its trailer has received over 2 million hits and views already.

The clips from the film promise an action-filled, rip-roaring cinematic experience.

Kaala is produced by Rajinikanth's son-in-law and actor Dhanush.

This is the first time that Rajinikanth and Dhanush are collaborating on a film.

Rajinikanth's fans can expect the same visually stunning but improbable fighting sequences that have come to characterise him.

It is also reported that pro-Kannada organisations have been making calls to boycott films of Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan in the state ever since they began airing their views on the Cauvery issue in favour of Tamil Nadu. Hence, Kaala might not be screened in the state.
