Port City

This is my first "Sim City" attempt to build a map of a working capital. I made it with some inspiration from the city of Forgotten Realms location Cathyr in descriptions I read, as well as the Earthly locations of Clermont-Ferrand in France and Diyarbakır in Turkey: medieval towns and walled cities subsumed by modern sprawl.

This city is meant to reflect growth in a few different eras of history. It has two walled "Old Towns", a red "uptown" anchored by a cathedral and a university, a blue "downtown" with an arena and the main gates, a fortress, and a port and fishing village.

The two old towns probably had periods of good and bad relations. Now the red old town is sort of the heart of the city. The successful port has ploughed a major road right through the center of it to the main market. Some of its city walls have been blasted through to create new roads. The blue old town is in rough shape, with lots of ruins. Its diminished influence has led it to be encroached by the sprawling modern city. Traces of old dirt roads lead around the settlements, sometimes replaced by new cobblestone streets, and sometimes just paths that are relics of the old days.

The fishing village around the port is the heart of the economy. I like the idea of the working heart of the city not being a "neglected slum", but being a well-regarded area. It's rough around the edges but a proud and lively corner.

Then to the North, a massive fortress controlling the operation of all things. To its west, rich estates on the hills. To its east, the cemeteries and crypts. The fortress utilizes the smaller, old fort in the red old town as an outpost to keep watch on the town.

You're welcome to use it and give a name.
