A Month of Celebration

I

t's June, and a lot of exciting things are happening this month. Spring is in the air now, but pretty soon we will be celebrating the longest day of the year on the first day of summer. The first week of June is Fishing Week, and, interestingly, it is also National Gardening Week. Best Friends Day is June 8, and Father's Day is June 18. With so many exciting things happening at the same time, we decided to package them up in one fascinating issue that celebrates the role our father figures play in our lives.

We spoke with the team at Peters Landscaping to discuss revitalizing your landscape during National Gardening Week, hung out with our own local cigar connoisseur at Brunswick's largest mancave, and even met with the experts at Tailored Living to discuss maximizing your own space to turn a garage into your very own mancave or workshop. And, between meeting with those experts, we also uncovered the best fishing spots in the county and learned about the best summer beers to help you find a new favorite brew this season. The best part is that you, too, can do all these things with your dad without even leaving the county! As always, we are inspired by community. Keep in touch!

the Peters Professional team will tackle any of your outdoor projects. “If you can dream it, we can build it,” says General Manager Josh Riley. “Whether you are looking to maintain your landscape or refurbish it with a water feature, patio, or outdoor kitchen, we are equipped to turn your yard into your dream outdoor living space.” In landscape design, Owner Chris Peters has noted a recent trend toward favoring outdoor living spaces where groups can congregate and relax. “Between April and June, everyone wants to be ready for that outdoor 4th of July entertainment,” says Peters. “Nothing makes an impact like a well-designed yard and healthy, colorful flowers. People want a place at home to decompress and enjoy the outdoors, and as a result we have noted a trend toward textures, colors, and designs closely associated with nature.” While the unpredictable Ohio seasonal changes were once dreaded, today they seem to be much more celebrated. “People are starting to enjoy the changes of seasons,” says Riley. “Fireplaces seem to be one of the most important requests, as they can be used throughout spring, summer, fall, and even sometimes during the winter. The best part is, we design your yard with you and around your lifestyle needs. We get to know your likes and dislikes and entertaining habits, and we work with you to bring your outdoor oasis to life.” In fact, projects by Peters Professional Landscaping are anything but cookie cutter. Armed with quality products such as Smoke-NHott Grills, Weaver Barns, and Unilock paving products, the team of 20 landscape experts will make your yard stand out. No project is too large or too small for them to bring to life. “We offer on our website the opportunity to get to know our team,” says Riley. “Putting an identity to your landscapers and knowing who

magine a backdrop of fine wine, local microbrews, irresistible food, and entertainment all

set in the sleepy Medina County countryside. This setting will soon be a reality at Buffalo Creek Retreat in Seville when the first-ever Uncorked Medina Wine Festival debuts in July. The festival takes place July 21 and 22 and will feature the aforementioned delicacies as well as displays and demonstrations by a variety of exhibitors in an indoor and outdoor marketplace. Hosted by seasoned event promoters and managers, Bloom Event Planning and Management

Services,

wine, craft beers, and entertainment, and you want to

support the local parks, then you will have a great time,” says Jeanne Hurt, one of the event organizers. “Kelley, my business partner, and I reached out to Linda Loveless of Creative Show Promotions. She told us that she wanted to organize a local wine festival, and we shared that interest. That’s how it started. The partnership with the parks was born when we were looking for the perfect venue to host the festival, and we are all beyond thrilled. The festival is benefiting such a great cause and taking place in one of our beautiful parks.” Friends of Medina County Parks is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Medina County Park District through volunteerism and fundraising. Over the park district’s 52-year history, Friends of Medina County Parks has been instrumental in helping acquire and enhance land for parks -- including the popular Carolyn Ludwig Mugrage Park in Granger Township, opened in 2013. One of the group’s major impacts is through its funding of the Connecting Children and Nature Grant, which provides transportation cost assistance to school groups wishing to travel to the Wolf Creek Environmental Center for field studies -- helping connect more than 5,000 children with nature every year. “The event will include culinary demonstrations on both Friday and Saturday. We are featuring international, domestic, and Ohio wines, and a variety of beer. Expect to taste wines by Gervasi Vineyard in Canton, Troutman Vineyards in Wooster. and Medina County wineries including Filia Winery, It’s Your Winery, The Winery at Wolf Creek, and Frontier Cider Co. “You can also purchase tickets for the Twilight Dinner,” continues Hurt, “Which takes place Friday night at 6 pm. Chef Anthony Scolaro, of 111 Bistro in Medina, will prepare a multicourse dinner with which he will pair specialty wines.”

National Carpet Mill Outlet in Medina and National Granite Luxuries have joined to become National Design Mart. A one-stop inspiration destination with 150,000 sq. ft. of home design inspiration.

Tasting tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door, and it includes a commemorative wine glass and 10 tastings of wine or craft beer. Designated Driver tickets are $10 and include non-alcoholic beverages. Twilight Dinner tickets are $100 and include entrance to the event, five wine tastings, plus wine accompanying your multi-course dinner. Limited seats are available for this exclusive dinner. Hawthorn Suites in Seville is running a special weekend rate of $89 per room (plus tax), so plan to spend the weekend out and about enjoying the amenities offered in the scenic Medina County countryside! Volunteers are needed for three hour shifts at the event. A variety of volunteer opportunities are available. Volunteers will have the opportunity to purchase a tasting ticket at a reduced price of $15 and will receive an Uncorked t-shirt.For more information and to purchase tickets, visit UncorkedMedinaWineFest. com. Brunswick's Largest Man Cave:

HAVANA'S CHOICE CIGARS 16

Medina County Lifestyle | June 2017

“W

e consider ourself Brunswick's Largest Man Cave,”

BE YOUR MOST BEAUTIFUL YOU

says Don Raimondo of Havana's Choice Cigar. The

lounge, located on the northern end of Brunswick off of Pearl Road, exudes all the qualities that a man cave should: comfort, camaraderie, and, of course, cigars. “I started Havana's Choice Cigar four years ago with Ron Corsi because, well, we both love cigars,” explains Raimondo. “Ron has a great understanding of the whole cigar-making pro-

cess, and we really loved the idea of creating our own blends.” Corsi and Raimondo originally offered their unique blends to golf courses, but as people fell in love with their abundant flavors, they saw a need to expand. After just a few months in the cigar business, the first Havana's Choice Cigar lounge opened in Twinsberg. The cigar aficionados then opened the Brunswick location nearly two years ago, and it was an instant hit. “We think we are different than the traditional cigar lounge,” explains Raimondo. “We have a large variety of cigar products and miscellaneous cutters, lighters, and humidors. But, we go one step beyond that by holding your comfort in high esteem. To us, customer service means offering help or allowing you to peruse on your own, it means making sure the right channel is on the television and that you are comfortable. We make sure your needs are met so that you can relax and enjoy the environment.” The environment is certainly notable—the air is rich with the sharp and earthy scent of cigar smoke, the oversized chairs

are covered in warm-tone leather, and the cherry oak-framed windows offer a glimpse at a thickly wooded landscape. The lounge is encircled by a patio, which offers tables, television, shade, and socialization. “We're constantly cooking something out on the patio,” says Raimondo. “We have special event nights.
