The President of the Republican Party - Do not blame Amupanda The controversy surrounding ex SPYL spokesperson, Job Amupanda’s land grab in Kleine Kuppe, yet again illustrates the inability of the Swapo government and the Swapo dominated Council of the City of Windhoek, to effectively address the problems surrounding land transactions and allocations. What Amupanda did was illegal and the Republican Party will never support or condone any such actions. We nevertheless have sympathy and understanding for the reasons behind Mr Amupanda’s drastic and dramatic actions. Knowing full well that his actions will have dire consequences for him, Mr Amupanda nevertheless embarked on this chosen course of action in an act of total desperation, defiance and dissatisfaction with the prevailing land allocation issue as perpetrated by government and specifically the City of Windhoek. It also mirrors the general public’s disillusion and discontent with the present situation in which justice, order, equity and fairness have no role to play anymore. The Mayor Kafula’s son, Dillish and others get lightning quick favourable treatment, whereas Joe Citizen “has to follow procedure” and pay through his neck after sometimes terminally lengthy waiting periods for applications to be finalized. Typical of SWAPO, they chose to play the man and not the ball, simply because they cannot or will not see the ball. Instead of

firing Mr Amupanda from the party, they should have sat down with him in a bid to uncover the reasons for this pathetic state of affairs. Had they done so, they would have uncovered the reasons soon enough. The entire crisis is caused by inept, incompetent, greedy officials and councilors of the City of Windhoek. Instead of fulfilling their obligation to identify suitable tracts of land, divide these up, supply the required services and offer the plots for sale to the general public at the lowest possible cost, they choose to sell land to non-bona fide, but well connected “developers”, who in turn sell the land off to other “developers” who then develop and resell at hugely inflated prices. This creates a chain of middle persons each taking his/her cut and rendering property prices totally unaffordable for the person in the street. If SWAPO had embarked on an honest attempt to uncover the real reasons for this dismal situation, they would have uncovered a corrupt, self-enriching and mismanaged City of Windhoek municipality, which arro-

gantly sails forth on a course of no-accountability to anyone – especially the public and law abiding tax payers – for the sake of greed, political favours and hidden agendas of power mongering. A brief scan of the newspaper reports of the past few weeks leaves no one in doubt about what has been happening clandestinely for many years and is now being brazenly perpetrated in broad daylight. SWAPO, do the right thing! Don’t blame Job Amupanda -rather look in the mirror, for once recognise what you see there and take the necessary steps to redress the situation and show the general public that you care and that you are able to at least resolve one of the many serious issues confronting our country. A good first step for Swapo could be to fire all their current City Councilors with those who are prepared to put the interest of the residents that they are supposed to serve before their own interest and that of their families and friends. Signed at Windhoek on this 18th day of November 2014. H.F. Mudge President of the RP
