Lemonodasos house

The new addition of the second floor inserts a big flat roof to shelter and protect the new summer house. Under this roof, the space is transformed into a big open air cavity with a panoramic view of the lemon grove and the sea.The house is located at Lemonodasos, a sea side region of the peloponnese peninsula, full of lemon trees. The house was originally built in the 50's and consisted of a ground floor with stone walls and a wooden pitched roof. The orientation of the house is towards the sea and the large lemon tree garden. Later in the 90’s, an addition of a floor was planned but has never been completed. The “cave” is constructed entirely from exposed concrete with one side totally opened to the view. To enhance the gesture, most of the existing openings in the ground floor were closed and converted into inner niches. A large interruption of the stone wall, brings the existing stone oven, a relic of the past, in focus. Above the large opening, the elevated ceiling defines the area of a bedroom in a free continuous space. Flushed interior sliding rails in the ceiling and floor could isolate the “cave”, creating inside two separate rooms and a shared living space. Externally sliding frames and wooden panels, regulate the sun and privacy.
