The freezer paper can be used up to 8 times and at the end... | By Emma Jean Jansen | Hi and welcome to part two of foundation paper piecing with freezerpaper we're on to the next stage so we've already made our foundation now we need to pre-fold all the sewing lines so these are the lines we're actually going to use to sew against ah so pre-folding them makes it easier so first up we are going to start with our first fabric now with the shiny side up the wrong side of the fabric down we're going to iron it to that front so if you iron from the back not going to stick to your iron it's going to stick to your fabric and we're going to flip it back over and fold it back. Now the whole idea about freezerpaper is the fold becomes your sewing line. So instead of sewing through the paper like traditional ah foundation piecing you are actually sewing alongside the freezerpaper. So you're not going to be sewing through the paper that then has to be ripped out at the end it's actually sewing along it and then the freezerpaper can just be removed at the end. So you're not putting stress on seams. So here you can see I've sewn that for seam then I've ironed the next piece down. Sometimes you need to do a couple of irons just to make sure it sticks. And then I use one of these add a quarter rulers. They're a cute little gadget that has a quarter inch seam and trim your fabric off. This then gives you the perfect seam lounge. And you take your next bit. And flip it over so right side's together and then flip the foundation the freezerpaper foundation piece back. Make sure you're covering top and bottom and then stitch along that line again. So using it as a guide. Um it's an incredibly accurate technique and I use this one I just I hate ripping out the paper at the end of using the traditional method of foundation piecing it's tedious this is not and the bonus here I am so folding back again to that line and then trimming to a quarter of an inch so all these pieces of fabric that I've cut are much larger not just a quarter of inch they're quite a bit larger so but they don't have to be accurate than the shape that we're making. So again I've sped this up because obviously it's very repetitive and sewing along and ironing along. So one of the ah I was taught by another teacher and she uses the word sift. So you sew iron fold trim. And that's how you end up with this wonderful shape at the end and you can see this is all ironed on and then the next step is to actually trim and that will be in part three so stay tuned for that
