Police are investigating an incident from earlier this morning where a Reynolds High School student was found to have brought a gun and illegal substances to school.

School security staff witnessed the student smoking or vaping before school began. Security stopped and questioned the student when the student tried to enter the school.

The student was subsequently searched, and found to be possessing a gun and illegal substances.

The school immediately notified the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Student Resource Deputies. The deputies took the student to a secure location for further investigation, and later transported the student offsite. The sheriff's office is actively investigating the situation.

Students arriving to the school were safe at all times due to the quick response, as stated by Principal Wade Bakley. Parents were notified of the incident at around 11:15 a.m.

The school has made counselors and social workers available for students and staff.
