The Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo has officially flagged off a delegation of 20 athletes who will represent the University and Kenya at the East Africa University Games. The event is scheduled to take place at Maseno University from 16th to 20th December 2024.
The team, led by Captain Fabian Omondi Opiyo, comprises nine (9) Tae Kwondo athletes, one (1) Karate athlete, and a group of 10 track and field athletes. The delegation will be under the guidance of Olympian Faith Ogallo, supported by five technical staff specializing in various disciplines.
According to the Senior Games and Sports Tutor, Mr. Tom Amwanzo, the team is well prepared and has demonstrated exceptional performance throughout the qualification stages, beginning with the WEKUSA competitions.
The Vice Chancellor commended the athletes for their discipline and dedication, emphasizing the importance of upholding the honor of both the Kenyan and Kibabii University flags.
“I love the spirit and consistency of this team. Your discipline has brought you this far. We now challenge you to bring the East African glory home,” he remarked.
The ceremony was also attended by the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs), Prof. Ernest Mohochi, and the In-Charge of Student Affairs, Dr. Ben Nasong’o and SOKU President Mr. Silali Kibika among others.
