Grandview HS student in police custody for bringing gun to school

GRANDVIEW -- Students and staff at Grandview High School had to be placed on a temporary lockdown due to a student bearing a firearm.

According to the Grandview School District this afternoon, at approximately 2:40 p.m., Grandview High School administrators were notified of a student at the school with a firearm.

The high school immediately went into lock down, security officers quickly located and isolated the student and notified law enforcement.

School officials say the Grandview Police Department arrived on the scene, secured the gun and took the student into custody at approximately 2:50 p.m.

The Grandview School District says as a precautionary measure, the Grandview Police Department and high school administrators placed the school on lockdown and began a process of securing and clearing the high school buildings.

School officials say that Grandview High School was cleared at 3:35 p.m., and school will resume as normal tomorrow, including evening activities schedule for tonight.

Grandview Police Department also authorized the continuation of outside after school activities and transportation is continuing as normal.

The Grandview School District says that, "The safety and welfare of our students is of foremost importance. We are committed to taking appropriate measures to ensure the safety of all our students and staff members."
