Easy Creamsicle Jello Salad

Orange creamsicle salad is a luscious orange dessert that has just the right amount of citrus flavor that pairs great with tapioca and vanilla pudding. I love using Jello and pudding mixes to make creative and easy dessert recipes. They add great texture and flavor to ingredients like whipped cream and cream cheese.

This is not a heavy dessert, either. It’s fluffy and creamy, and after just a couple of spoonfuls, it curbs my sweet cravings! Orange Creamsicle Lush has similar flavors if you love orange Jello.

What You’ll Need

Below is everything you need to make this creamy dessert. These ingredients are easy to find at any grocery store!

  • Mandarin oranges: I add them right into the mixture for pops of orange throughout the dessert. They make a great garnish, too!
  • Tapioca pudding mix: I love tapioca pudding’s subtle flavor and chewy texture. It pairs well with this recipe’s other bright flavors.
  • Vanilla pudding mix: I like to use vanilla with tapioca because they work so well together.
  • Orange Jello mix: The orange flavor comes from the Jello mix. It adds just the right amount of citrus.
  • Cool Whip: The whipped topping makes the creamsicle salad creamy and light.

How to Make Orange Creamsicle Salad

The process is fairly easy and quick minus the cooling and chilling times. It’s a minimal hands-on dessert that is perfect for a party.

  • Cook the pudding and Jello. Heat a saucepan over medium heat. Pour in the water, both pudding mixes, and the Jello mix. Whisk until they are well combined. Allow the mixture to come to a boil.
  • Cool. Transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl and allow it to cool to room temperature for at least 1 hour.
  • Add Cool Whip and oranges. Once the mixture is cooled, fold in the mandarin oranges and Cool whip.
  • Chill. Transfer it to a serving dish and cover it with plastic wrap. Place it in the refrigerator for about an hour.
  • Serve. Enjoy cold!

Tips and Variations

  • Strawberry. Use strawberry Jello mix and sliced strawberries instead of orange Jello and mandarin oranges.
  • Lemon. Swap the vanilla pudding mix for lemon to add even more citrus flavor.
  • Allow it to fully cool. Ensure that the pudding and Jello mixture has cooled completely before you add the Cool Whip so it doesn’t melt.
  • Chill to properly set. Allow the salad enough time in the refrigerator to get cold and set.
  • Mix ins. Consider mixing in some mini marshmallows or chopped pecans for a twist.

How to Serve Easy Jello Creamsicle Salad

You may want to add additional mandarin oranges to the top of the salad for garnish and extra orange flavor. We served the Jello salad in a large bowl and scooped out servings as needed. You can also spoon the salad into small cups, ramekins, or glass jars to make individual serving sized Jello salads.

Proper Storage

Store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days. You may also cover the serving dish with plastic wrap. Do not freeze creamsicle salad or it will become watery when it thaws.

I don’t like tapioca but I make it for my daughters friend and she and her entire family devour it in one sitting fighting for scraps. They love it. We are meeting together tomorrow, but since their Christmas gifts have not arrived yet, I thought a bowl of this would go down well and they’ll forget about gifts. This time I’m going to use strawberry Jello and crushed candy canes. Thanks for posting this recipe.

  3. First time making it. Didn’t have tapioca pudding so used banana cream pudding. It’s really good. Excited to see what the family thinks tomorrow.

Yumm.  This is what we needed  today.  Temp at 29F, with humidity at 35F.  Too hot to handle.  The temp that is.  The dish cooled us down instantly.  I see and save many of your recipes, but always to shy to comment.   Thanks for the excellent work you do.

My tweak to this recipe is to use the juice from the mandarin oranges as part of the liquid I use to cook the mixes. I also use 3 cups of liquid – I am sure it works both ways. Our family loves this salad/dessert! It’s making me hungry just thinking about it right now! lol

I make this but a little different. I don’t use the tapioca. I make the jello first using only 1cup boiling water, mix well then add 1/2 cup cold water. Allow to set about 15 min in fridge. Fold in vanilla pudding mix (mix only) mixing until completely dissolved. Cool slightly again about 15 min in fridge. Add 8oz cool whip, 1 cup marshmallow (mini), and the 1 can mandarin oranges (drained) mix well and chill about 30 minutes before serving
