About

Latinos For Trump Supporter Arrested By ICE, also known as ICE’s "Latinos For Trump" T-Shirt Detainment, refers to a doctored and photoshopped image showing a man wearing a T-shirt with the catchphrase “Latinos for Trump” while being escorted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and police. The image gained viral attention in late January 2025 as a form of fake news amid United States President Donald Trump's mass deportation of illegal immigrants, but it was actually taken in a June 2018 raid on a Fresh Mark meatpacking plant in Salem, Ohio, which saw ICE officials detain 146 workers. The original photo depicting the man in a white hardhat and grey shirt did not have any text on the back of his clothing, with the "Latinos For Trump" part being added in later to spread misinformation.

Origin

On January 27th, 2025, X[1] / Twitter user @elconde_nadø uploaded an edited image featuring a man in a hard hat and a "Latinos For Trump" T-shirt being detained by ICE agents, which coincided with U.S. President Donald Trump's crackdown on immigration at the start of his second term. The post (seen below) was accompanied by the caption, "'Let's enjoy what has been voted,'" which amassed more than 128,000 views and 2,700 likes in three days.

X user @elconde_nad0 shared a photoshopped image from June 2018 with a Latino man wearing a "Latinos for Trump" T-shirt.

Sometime shortly after, a Community Note was added to the tweet by X users, which stated that it was a manipulated image and was "digitally altered to add the 'Latinos for Trump 2024' logo."

Spread

The image went viral on X, Facebook and Instagram in the following days, prompting fact-checking news outlets to investigate the origins of the fake image.

On January 28th, 2025, AFP Fact Check[2] revealed the original photo was sourced to several news articles from NPR, the Guardian and other media outlets about a June 2018 raid on a Fresh Mark meatpacking plant in Salem, Ohio that saw ICE officials detain 146 workers. In the unaltered photograph, the man's shirt is simply grey with no text on the back.

Even though several media outlets and an X Community Note labeled the image as "fake news" and a "manipulated image," several netizens shared the Latinos for Trump meme as if it were a real photo. For instance, on January 27th, X[3] user @RobertoMTico posted the image with the caption, "Latinos por Trump," which gained more than 1.1 million views and 37,000 likes in three days.

You know, there's already been cases of ICE rounding up Latinos who are 100% legal in the last week. Seeing how Trump essentially won the Latino vote this election, I'm sure there are plenty of cases of "Ha ha! Trump's going to deport the-Oh no, not me! I meant those illegals!" You don't have to fake cases of this. This is literally no better than conservatives using AI to make images of Elon and Trump personally helping people to make them look good.

And even if there are Trump voting Latinos getting deported….still nothing to celebrate, like I said Latinos are starting to have to walk around with birth certificates, Social Security Cards, Passports and all of that just to avoid being falsely rounded up, that's fucked up yo.

This is the most peak neoliberal thing to do, you photoshop and slander some random guy who didn't vote for Trump (or anyone since he's an illegal immigrant) just to own some chuds on the internet. This is basically on the same level as those political AIslop tweets that get passed around.
