The Monument Fire is burning in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest along the Trinity River, west of Weaverville CA. The fire is estimated at 161,155 acres and 23% contained. With temperatures in the 90’s and humidity levels in the single digits, portions of the Monument Fire area saw very active conditions yesterday.

While yesterday’s growth was largely confined to wilderness and unpopulated terrain, the fire still retains lots of potential to move toward populated areas. To protect those areas the emphasis today will continue to be the construction and strengthening of primary, alternate, and contingency fire lines.

Clearer air is expected earlier today which should allow helicopters to fly, as needed, to support the firefighters on the ground. That clear air will also help ventilate the fire and allow more solar radiation to reach the ground, and both of those things can contribute to active fire behavior.

Evacuation orders are in effect for Barker Mountain, the NW portion of Hayfork Summit, and North Hayfork Valley, north of Highway 3, andthe north side of Hyampom Road from Hayfork to 9-mile bridge.

Evacuation warnings are in effect for Big Bar, Big Flat, Burnt Ranch, Douglas City, Junction City, areas south from Barker Mountain to Hayfork, Denny, Hawkins Bar, and Trinity Village.

There is a Domestic Animal evacuation center at Trinity County Animal Shelter, located at 563 Mountain View St. in Weaverville. There is also an evacuation center for domestic and large animals at Hoopa Rodeo Grounds, located at Pine Creek Rd. in Hoopa.
