Historia Sudaniae traditiones resque gestas tractat hominum regionem continentis Africanae habitantium quae terras civitatum sui iuris Sudaniae et Sudaniae Australis comprehendit, cum maiore quidem regione, Sudania quoque appellata. Vocabulum praeterea, ab Arabico بلاد السودان bilād as-sūdān 'terra hominum nigrorum' derivatum,[2][3] latius ad historiam Africae Occidentalis Mediaeque adhibetur, praecipue ad Sahelam pertinentem.
