I’m not sure how many people are aware that, as of June 2024, you can no longer purchase “corded” blinds. This is due to a revised standard from the American National Standards Institute that “eliminates the use of free hanging operating cords” and goes on to state that blinds need to be “cordless or have inaccessible cords.’’

Having to replace a mini-blind in my home, I now, every morning and evening, use a pole to raise and lower my pressure-operated blind. While struggling with this, I ask myself why it is possible to protect children and pets from corded blinds, yet we apparently can do nothing to protect them from guns.

I guess it is simpler to have the American National Standards Institute and the Window Covering Manufacturers Association work to protect all of us from the menace of window blind cords.

Maybe the American National Standards Institute and gun manufacturers could develop a standard to protect children — and everyone — from gun deaths.
