The Odyssey

The Odyssey

Technically we saw this in middle school history class, but was it the entire film? I don't know. Random disconnected shots from this have been in my head for years, so it was probably a lot of it.

Frequently chintzy but when they let the source material speak for itself is does contain a certain something. (I was obsessed with The Odyssey growing up so there's probably some bias.) Fascinating time capsule of a cast, some of whom are making no attempts whatsoever at accents. A lot of misguided decisions: Poseidon declaring vengeance right after Troy gets sacked because of Odysseus randomly bragging, everything involving Circe/Calypso, etc.

Probably a Europudding but not a particularly bad example of the form, even with TV limitations (there's some surprisingly gnarly violence in this). Mostly just made me want to finally get around to Nostos: The Return.
