• The Intern

    The Intern

    ★★★½

It's predictable, cliched, and it does run to long containing some unnecessary subplots but "The Intern" is still a really sweet and enjoyable film to watch. Robert De Niro is terrific and Anne Hathaway is really good as well and the two of them do share some really good chemistry. The tone also balances drama, comedy and a little romance pretty nicely as well. It's nothing to special, but it's still a irresistibly charming crowd pleaser.

  • Miller's Girl

    Miller's Girl

    ★★½

I really wanted to like Miller’s Girl but it ultimately let me down. Jenna Ortega commands the screen, giving a fearless and daring performance unlike anything she’s ever done before while Martin Freeman is as solid and committed as always. They share strong chemistry and sell the complex relationship that builds between their characters. I really loved the cinematography, setting, and atmosphere this creates, but the script and story ultimately let it down. For how much of an outrage this…

  • Instant Family

    Instant Family

    ★★★★

I expected this to be good but I didn't expect it to be great. Sure not every joke works and the film starts off a little rocky, "Instant Family" is still one of the most funny, honest, touching, powerful, and above all else heartwarming films of the year. Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne are perfectly cast while the kids are great as well and you really buy their chemistry. Don't have too much to say about this one but it really is one of the most enjoyable movies of the year and I just appreciated how honest this movie was. Go see this.

  • Deadpool 2

    Deadpool 2

    ★★★★

Far from perfect but easily the most fun I've had at the movies all year. To get the problems out of the way first, some of the CGI effects are iffy, not every joke sticks the landing, and the first 20 or so minutes a little messy, but once this film gets going I had a total blast. Reynolds is terrific once again but Beetz really impressed me as Domino and Brolin kills it as Cable. The action sequences are…

  • Our Little Secret

    Our Little Secret

    ★★★½

Definitely the best of the three Netflix/Lindsay Lohan collaborations. Our Little Secret feels like a throwback to old school romcoms in the best sense and makes for a pretty delightful Christmas romcom. Lindsay Lohan and Ian Harding are both really good and have great chemistry together. They play off each other very well and you're rooting for them to end up with each other by the end. The stacked supporting cast is a lot of fun too with Kristen Chenoweth…

  • True Story

    True Story

    ★★★

I'm not gonna lie, I was pretty underwhelmed with True Story. It's poorly paced, most of the characters aren't very well developed, it gets very repetitive and the payoff wasn't as satisfying or compelling as I was hoping, but thanks to the strong performances from Jonah Hill, James Franco and Felicity Jones along with the absolutely beautiful cinematography and an interesting and mostly engaging story, I can give True Story a mild recommendation.

  • The Swimmers

    The Swimmers

    ★★★½

I'm pretty surprised to see a lot of the first reviews for this to be so mixed. While The Swimmers could've been a little stronger overall, I still found this to be an inspirational, heartfelt and emotional true story that I knew little about beforehand. This is a feel-good movie at its core but I'm glad Sally El Hosaini didn't shy away from the darker and more intense moments of the story even if it does make the tone feel…

  • Sinister 2

    Sinister 2

    ★½

Ugh.... What a big disappointment. I don't even really want to talk about this, all you need to know is it's a stupid, lazy, and boring horror film with weak performances, a terrible script with laughable dialogue, and annoying, loud, infuriating, and pointless jump scares. Also possibly the worst climax I've ever seen in a horror movie.

  • Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2

    Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2

For a good amount of its runtime I was thinking to myself how could someone make something so painfully unfunny, uninspired and boring filled with juvenile humor, annoying characters and dumb gags, then I remembered I was watching Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2.

  • Spontaneous

    Spontaneous

    ★★★★½

Wow I didn't expect to love this but here we are. A really dark and cleverly written teen comedy with an outrageous and kind of scary premise that's surprisingly sweet and has a lot of heart. Charlie Plummer turns in another solid performance but Katherine Langford gives easily her best performance from at least what I've seen and I really loved their chemistry together. I just felt a lot of different things watching it, it's blends so many different tones…

  • The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run

    ★★★

"The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run" is probably the weakest in the trilogy but it's still a super cute and fun time. While I do miss the hand drawn animation, I didn't mind this style as much as I thought I would and it wasn't as jarring as I feared it would be. I wish this was as funny as the first two but there's still plenty of laughs to be had and this is easily the most heartfelt…

  • Goosebumps

    Goosebumps

    ★★★½

Some of the jokes fall flat here and there, and the CGI is noticeably bad, but "Goosebumps" is still an insanely fun, fast paced, and entertaining time at the movies. The cast looks like there all having a blast, the action sequences are a ton of fun to watch, and I was laughing pretty consistently throughout. Nothing all the special or memorable in the long run but it's a perfect way to speed 100 minutes.
