Second of two films that make up the collaborative film "Los Bienamados" (The Beloved, 1965). Claudia, a young aristocratic girl travels to Switzerland to recover the corpse of her brother, Juan Luis. As she flies back home to Mexico, in flashback it is revealed that she and her brother had an incestuous relationship and that she managed to drive his fiance, Claire, to her death... with tragic consequences for all of them.

Una hechura más de Carlos Fuentes metiéndome en problemas; a mi también me encantaría morirme en una sala de cine mientras proyectan The treasure of Sierra Madre, la mejor película de Bogart.
La historia es extraña, pero me sentí un tanto hipnotizada por los movimientos de cámara, son maravillosos, uno de los que más me gustó fue en donde están en la sala de juegos y llegan hasta la cabina fotográfica, qué magistral! Ese plano fluye como el agua, se decanta hermosamente hasta llegar a Rocha haciendo caritas chistosas para las fotos.
Aquí no se explota tan vulgarmente la cuestión de la sexualidad (que al final aquí si tiene un porqué muy estricto y es el intento de Juan Luis…
this is one of the movies where méxico attempted to do a movie in the vein of french new wave and the results are mixed. arabella árbenz steals every scene she’s in. there’s so much to say about that party scene too, it was hypnotic. i wish there were more mexican movies like this. it’s far from perfect but a unique movie nonetheless.
Aqui vemos Leonora Carrington em uma rara aparição em frente às câmeras (do Gabriel Figueroa), enigmática e silenciosa, atuando. Ela faz a mãe do casal de filhos incestuosos neste filme baseado no conto homônimo do Carlos Fuentes.
