  not quite the misandrist bloodbath i wanted but still a grimy, delirious trip. shelley winters is the greatest actor of her (+every) generation and corman takes on "america" as harsh & unforgiving as anything from the decade - ma's posse of boys are brutal, glue-sniffing clods, their father a useless sperm donor, and cheap b&w newsreels are an ugly hoedown of guns, greed, lynchings and "mothers of america" stamps. furious satire that still delivers sleazy b thrills & dynamite camp. x10 better than bonnie & clyde. were the 30s in the 60s like the 80s in the 10s????

  p.s. arizona barker was an innocent woman murdered by the fbi & j.edgar hoover concocted the "ma barker" lie to cover it up the barker gang was controlled by st. paul police chief tom brown who was demoted but never faced justice for his crimes. never trust cops

  Action!-The March of the (3) Rogers: B Is For Corman

  As we near the end of our marathon, the quality of Roger Corman's flicks begins to deteriorate once more. At the same time, the filmmaker managed to work with young stars who would go on to become legends. In the case of this film, we have none other than Robert De Niro in one of his early roles.

  Happy Mother’s Day!♥️

  In appropriately exploitation B-movie style, this film was bloody, suggestively salacious, & action packed… with car chases, crashes, shootouts, & a bunch of murders thrown in.

  It also has excellent acting, complex characters, creative camera angles & shots, & period appropriate costumes, cars, & some locations… all things that I would not expect much of in a movie filmed in 3-4ish weeks.

  Shelly Winters was perfect here, & Robert De Niro was a star before he was famous. 
  I think I enjoyed this even more today, after recently watching “Roger Corman: Hollywood’s Wild Angel”. Some people thrive in what they were made to do, & Corman was most definitely one of them.

  Not a film to be taken lightly, Bloody Mama opens with a rape scene. Its also a movie that openly embraces farcical humour and the crime caper before it ends in a gory shootout. Its pliable movie in terms of tone and this does take some navigating.

  It’s ramshackle in a creative waynand is rarely dull. And for this it sort of feels like quintessential Corman. Of great appeal, is the cast.   As far as Bonnie and Clyde ripoffs go, I prefer the sheer firepower of Dillinger, but this one is pretty good too. Corman directs this as a smothering hicksploitation shoutfest with a sense of psychosexual tension that gives a new meaning to the phrase “family values”. Centred on a force of nature performance by Shelley Winters, who spits, screams and machine guns her way through the thunderous climax. Also worth watching for an early Robert De Niro performance, as well as Bruce Dern as the gay sadist lover of one of Winters’ sons… who gets propositioned by Winters in front of said son! Like I said, “family values”.

  The timing was right for a movie about the Ma Barker gang. "Bonnie and Clyde" had been a huge box office and critical hit a few years prior. Shelley Winters was primed to relish the role. Two years earlier she had already played Ma Parker, the matriarchal villain who, along with her sons wreaked havoc on the "Batman" television series. Violence was in vogue for cinema. Plus, Roger Corman was on board to direct.

  Happy Mother's Day!

  Shelly WInters is perfect as the infamous Ma Barker. Bobby DeNiro plays one of her four boys. Besides it being Mother's Day, I watched this exploitation flick out of respect for Roger Corman, who died this past Thursday at the age of 98. He not only produced but also directed "Bloody Mamma". He'd go on to produce "Big Bad Mama" with Angie Dickinson.

  i have had to send pictures of robert de niro to two seperate friends because they didn't know what he looked like/who he was (i'm friends with several dumbass wlw who have never seen a movie in their lives) and this time the response was: "he's a little bit ugly, i like that! was he in the sopranos?"

  sorry to this movie for using it as a platform to highlight my friends' funny weaknesses as human beings but i simply have nothing to say about its contents. it was not as interesting as it should have been. i liked the theme song though!
