John Hasty made a little indie movie a few years ago called Honeyspider and I kinda dug it, so I figured I’d give this a shot... but despite some John Carpenter worship, a couple of decent kills, and a cool mask, I kinda lost interest fairly quickly. I hate slogging on movies like this because I always go in hoping for some neato little sicko gem that gets to come with me on my journey thru life but sadly there just wasn’t enough here.
Also Pancho Moler (who I love) wears corpse paint and a Rob zombie hat in this and calls the world outside of the carnival trailer park a “mean, nasty, evil bitch!” lmao.
Pretty split right down the middle on this one. There were things I loved and things I hated.
Things I loved: Courtney Gains and PJ Soles even if PJ’s role was entirely irrelevant to the movie, I still loved seeing her. Also Pancho Moler was a pleasant surprise…let’s keep him heavy in the horror rotation. I loved the killers look and I loved the implied violence, which is a catch 22 of sorts and I’ll explain that below.

Before I review this, I have to call out this director. If you want to be the next John Carpenter, make a GOOD movie before you plaster your name over the title like some pretentious asshole.
The Good :
1. The set decoration was decent, even though every location had the exact same halloween decor. The Dr. Death sign was cool.
2. It had good atmosphere. It really felt like a Halloween film.
3. Pancho Moler. Poor bastard gave it his all. He deserved much better.

1. The characters. There is nothing to like about anything here. You can't root for the main group because they're murderers and unlikable assholes. The one character you're supposed to have sympathy…
We have finally arrived at the generation of filmmakers who have seen Rob Zombie's Halloween before John Carpenter's.
Candy corn is polarizing. There are those who say it is bad. And there are those objectively correct individuals who understand that it is an integral, delicious thread that weaves together the warm, comforting quilt that is Halloween.
You can expect no such debate about Candy Corn. It’s bog-standard Pumpkinhead-lite slasher fare that puts all its eggs into one McDonald’s Boo Bucket: stunt casting. Outside of telling you that Pancho Moler sinks his teeth into his major supporting role and folks like Tony Todd and PJ Soles are totally serviceable for the combined two minutes of screen time they share (not fair, Tony Todd is excellent even in glimpses and whispers, I’ll give the man his well-deserved flowers), I can’t really recall much else about this movie hours removed. It’s all just slid right off my brain — just like how some tasty candy corn might slide right down your gullet.
Meh? The vintage Halloween decorations festooned across the sad, shitty little town was a nice aesthetic. Felt very real. I want that black cat garland! I could probably watch 80 minutes of just slides of old Halloween decorations. But I did come here for a story, so what did we get?
Tony Todd, but not enough. Never enough. Some horribly unlikeable and unrealistic characters. These "kids" were way too old to still care about some town misfit, one of them has a gf that's way too hot for his scraggly-moustached ass, and he's more focused on beating up some guy? And that girl... if all you do is weakly say "no, don't do that" and then go along with it…
What a disappointment. The acting was pretty bad, the constant slow motion reactions and scenes were annoying, and the over dramatic sound score was irritating. The dialogue was pretty terrible as well.
I was hoping I had another movie to add to the Halloween time rotation with Candy Corn, but it misses the mark in too many ways. It's just so... bland. I'm all for candy corn in my mouth, just keep it away from my eyes and ears! It hurts!

Was hoping I'd be able to add Candy Corn to my yearly Halloween rotation but I guess not. One of my favorite horror icons Tony Todd was in this film for maybe 10 mins and did absolutely nothing of note. Pj Soles made an brief appearance too, sitting at a desk and knodding a few times. The acting was pretty good from all involved but none of the characters were remotely likable or interesting in any way. Only thing I did like was the look of Jacob, the reanimated corpse doing the killings. Also minimal gore.

What in the GCSE drama is this?
Yeah, this was very disappointing. It had an interesting premise that became lacklustre and dull. It began increasing in dullness as the film progressed, to the point I became totally uninterested in the plot. The acting was atrocious; I don’t mind bad acting when it’s cheesy, but when it’s serious, it just becomes extremely cringe and off putting. I didn’t connect with a single character. The pacing dragged for such a short film (1hr 25).
The only strong positive I’ll say this film holds is the gore. It had some gruesome moments in it, even though that couldn’t save the film to a great degree, it added more enjoyment to the film.
